Close to You Animated Teaser for Pikmin Was Created Completely In-House by Nintendo Pictures

Nintendo has announced that the animated short, *Close to You*, released this week, is the first project fully created by its in-house studio, Nintendo Pictures. The company also plans to produce more video content based on its popular games and characters in the future.

Nintendo Pictures Co., Ltd. recently released its first collection of short films, the company announced on social media. They plan to keep creating video content and experimenting with new ideas.

This short film is basically a preview for a new project Nintendo is making based on *Pikmin*. The first preview, available on YouTube, only suggested a *Pikmin* connection through its music and some strange movements. A second version, released on the Nintendo Today app, made it clear that *Pikmin* were causing those movements.

The teaser features a baby left briefly alone who watches its pacifier mysteriously move on its own. The baby happily chases the pacifier as it rolls around the room. This leads to the baby taking its first steps to catch it, and its mother enters to find her child walking for the very first time, much to her delight.

Right now, the *Pikminthemed version of the short film is only available on the Nintendo Today app, and there’s no easy way to share it from there. But Nintendo will probably release it online through platforms like YouTube soon so everyone can watch it.

The recent teaser confirms Nintendo is developing something involving *Pikmin*, but it’s still unclear what it is. It could be a completely new *Pikmin* game, a side story, or even an enhanced version of *Pikmin 4* for the Nintendo Switch, potentially hinting at a Switch 2 upgrade.

The latest main installment in the *Pikmin* series is *Pikmin 4*, which launched on the Nintendo Switch in 2023. It received positive reviews, including from us, largely due to the addition of new elements like Otachi, a helpful dog companion that assists players during missions. Notably, producer Takeshi Tezuka hinted around the game’s release that the wait for the next *Pikmin* title wouldn’t be a long one.

Though not a mainstream hit, the *Pikmin* series has been beloved by fans since its debut on the GameCube in 2001. It’s known for its unique blend of real-time strategy, smart puzzles, and engaging stories.
