Clutch is the first game from Maverick Games, a newly formed studio created by the team behind the popular Forza Horizon series.
This game is an open-world action experience focused on driving. You’ll be able to compete in regular races, but also participate in thrilling, fast-paced chases and escapes where skillful driving and a daring style are key to survival.
The game will be released on PlayStation 5 in Spring 2027, and we’ll get a complete look at it later this week during the Summer Game Fest.
Maverick Games is a UK development studio founded by Mike Brown, a veteran of the racing game genre. Brown previously worked as a designer on all four recent Forza Horizon games, and also contributed to the development of Motorstorm Apocalypse and DriveClub.
As a big Forza Horizon fan, I was really excited to hear that some of the key people behind it are now working on Clutch! It’s awesome to know that Tom Butcher (who produced Forza Horizon), Matt Craven (the technical director), Gareth Harwood (technical art director), Fraser Stachan (audio director), and Ben Penrose (art director) are all bringing their talents to this new game. It definitely gives me hope that Clutch will be something special!
We’ll be learning more about the game’s story, characters, and setting during the Summer Game Fest on Friday. A short trailer actually premiered earlier today during a long livestream, but it hasn’t been released separately yet. I’ll add it to this article as soon as it’s available.
This open-world racing game is powered by Unreal Engine 5 and features both player-versus-player and player-versus-environment gameplay – you’ll encounter other racers while you compete. The developers at Clutch are planning extensive car customization options and features designed to make each vehicle feel unique and responsive.
