Clutch is Maverick Games’ Open-World Narrative-Based Driving Game

Maverick Games has officially announced its new open-world driving game, Clutch, after building anticipation with several previews. The game was revealed during a livestream last week, but a full trailer hasn’t been released yet, and the livestream video is currently unavailable.

As the livestream began, the studio team excitedly revealed Clutch, a game they’ve been working on for about three and a half years. They described it as a celebration of driving, the bond between a driver and their car, and the intense excitement of racing.

Most racing games prioritize gameplay, but Clutch will stand out with a strong focus on its story. The game follows two incredibly talented siblings as they compete in the R1K racing series—a legendary competition with over a hundred years of history, known for showcasing the world’s top drivers.

Beyond the R1K vehicle, there’s a community called the Midnight Collective. These drivers aren’t interested in rewards or recognition; they simply love the experience of driving and racing.

The story of Clutch begins with the main character getting into trouble, which forces them to seek help from a “fixer.” This quickly pulls them into a dangerous criminal world.

The game Clutch was built on a special version of Unreal Engine 5, letting the developers create car models with incredible detail – more than ever seen in a video game. They’ve painstakingly recreated everything, from the shape of the car and the paint finish to the stitching inside and even the wear on the tires. This attention to detail extends to classic cars as well, which will show realistic signs of age and use, as if they’ve been cherished and driven by previous owners.

The developers are claiming that Clutch raises the bar for how customizable cars can be in a game. This is a strong statement, particularly when compared to other visually impressive driving games with similar features, such as this year’s Forza Horizon 6.

Although the gameplay isn’t fully revealed, the video suggests players will be able to engage in criminal activities like bank robberies and exciting police chases. It also hints at special tools, such as grappling hooks, which could allow for over-the-top, action-movie-style stunts.

We’ll learn more about Clutch at Summer Game Fest 2026 on June 5th at 2 PM Pacific Time.
