CM Punk Surprises Drew McIntyre With Sneak Attack on WWE RAW

As a lifelong wrestling fan who has witnessed countless battles and seen the rise and fall of legends, I can confidently say that the current feud between CM Punk and Drew McIntyre is shaping up to be one for the ages. The raw emotion and personal animosity between these two titans are palpable, and it’s clear that neither man will back down until one has been defeated.

On WWE Raw, Randy Orton and Gunther engaged in an intense standoff before their World Heavyweight Championship bout at Bash in Berlin, scheduled soon. Despite being on the SmackDown brand, Orton seized the chance following a controversial ending at King of the Ring, which granted Gunther a shot at the number one contender position. As they faced off, Drew McIntyre’s music played, and he strode into the ring with a microphone in hand. Earlier in the program, McIntyre hinted at a possible title match, expressing frustration over feeling unfairly treated on multiple occasions.

McIntyre tore off his shirt, hinting at an impending fight, while Orton executed an RKO on Gunther when he was momentarily distracted. In response, McIntyre swiftly removed his belt with plans to use it as a weapon. However, CM Punk, who had been experiencing travel difficulties, ambushed him unexpectedly. Trying to get McIntyre’s AJ and Larry bracelet off his wrist, Punk’s scheme was foiled by the resourceful Scottish wrestler. The two eventually squared off at WWE SummerSlam, with McIntyre securing the win thanks to special referee Seth Rollins. He managed to land a low blow on Punk before delivering a claymore. Although McIntyre seems to have moved past this victory, Punk has not.

1. Punk snatched his belt and started lashing McIntyre across the ring, causing him to flee through the crowd, leaving his bracelet behind. Standing victorious with the belt in his grasp, he prepared for any retaliation that might follow. Due to the intensely personal nature of their rivalry, the upcoming rematch seems to warrant a significant condition. In a backstage conversation, Punk admitted that his travel troubles were fabricated as part of a clever trick on McIntyre, subtly suggesting a possible strap match, given his gaze fixed on the belt in his hand.

Last time Punk engaged in a strap fight was back in 2008 against Umaga during the WWE Extreme Rules event, which marked Umaga’s farewell from WWE. The strap match condition is seldom used, but it’s a scenario McIntyre has also experienced. In 2022, he lost to Karrion Kross in a similar fashion at Extreme Rules.

With Seth Rollins currently taking time off due to injuries, attention can now shift back towards Punk and McIntyre, enabling them to conclude their long-standing feud that started when Punk rejoined WWE last November. After a injury at the Royal Rumble, he’s been sidelined, but has still appeared on TV to maintain his storylines.
