CM Punk to Star in Upcoming Indie Comedy Film

As a gamer with a keen interest in both wrestling and movies, I must say I’m quite intrigued by CM Punk‘s new acting venture, “Let’s Start a Cult.” The man has been on quite a rollercoaster ride, from the WWE ring to Hollywood, and now back to the squared circle. It seems he can’t seem to escape cults, first in AEW and now in this film!

CM Punk, also known as Phil Brooks beyond professional wrestling, is about to start a new acting adventure with the comedy movie “Let’s Start a Cult” directed by Ben Kitnick. The specific details of his role in the film are not yet revealed, but it’s not his debut in acting. Lately, Punk has joined Paradigm Talent Agency, similar to several WWE stars, aiming for more intriguing opportunities away from the wrestling ring.

According to the summary, “After missing the much-anticipated ritual suicide of his cult, an annoying failure joins forces with a fraudulent ex-messiah to restore their apocalyptic commune. As they journey across middle America, the quarrelsome pair recruit a military aspirant, a mentally unstable mother, and a puzzling foreign hitchhiker into their cult… However, will this group of outcasts achieve their divine destiny or discover that life might be worth preserving?”

As a longtime fan of offbeat humor, I find the casting choices for this upcoming film quite intriguing. With Stavros Halkias, whose Netflix special left me rolling with laughter, Wes Haney from Adult Swim’s S.T.A.R. H.A.W.K.S., and Eric Rahill, a familiar face from Friendship, the ensemble seems perfectly assembled to deliver a unique blend of comedy that I simply can’t wait to see.

Over the years, Punk has taken on various roles outside of WWE following his departure, such as appearances in TV series like Maron and films like Girl on the Third Floor, Rabid, Jakob’s Wife, and Heels on STARZ (which will be available on Netflix next month). Recently, he’s returned to wrestling full-time with AEW after coming back in 2021. However, his time there concluded in the fall due to several behind-the-scenes altercations. Subsequently, he reconciled with the WWE leadership and made a dramatic comeback following about a decade away from the organization.

His comeback was prematurely ended by an injury in January, but he’s been actively engaged in a rivalry with WWE’s leading figure, Drew McIntyre. The long-awaited confrontation between the two took place at WWE SummerSlam, where Punk momentarily lost focus, providing McIntyre an opportunity for a surprise win. Their rematch is scheduled for next weekend at WWE Bash in Berlin, with an intriguing condition added to their upcoming fight.

On October 25th, the movie “Let’s Start a Cult” from Dark Sky Films will be shown in theaters. Keep an eye out here at ComicBook for the latest news and developments regarding CM Punk and WWE in the meantime.
