Dark Point Games, the studio behind Achilles: Survivor and Achilles: Legends Untold, is creating a new game called Brightfall. It’s a cooperative survival game with roguelite elements, set in an open world, and will be available on PC through Steam. The game doesn’t have a release date yet.
Here is an overview of the game, via its Steam page:
About
Make it through the darkness—or become a part of it.
Brightfall is a cooperative online game where up to four players work together to survive in a dangerous, open world. Set on a mysterious island from the 1600s that has been forgotten by England, you’ll need to build, craft items, and fight back against a growing darkness that threatens to consume everything.
Welcome to the Isle the Crown Pretends Doesn’t Exist
It’s 1666. London has finally recovered from the Great Plague, but a new challenge awaits. You find yourself washed ashore on Brightfall Island, a place with such a dark reputation that the Royal Navy actively avoids it.
Legend has it that every major plague originated in this place – from the Black Death to the Justinian blight, and now a new, terrifying illness. Hidden by constant fog and protected by fierce storms, it seems like the last place anyone would want to be, yet the kingdom sends its prisoners here.
One of them was you.
You’ll need to search for resources, construct defenses, and battle enemies to maintain your dwindling hope—because if your light fades, your mind will follow. Discover forgotten Celtic ruins, improve your abilities, and create brighter lights to venture further into the constantly changing darkness.
But beware—light fades, monsters grow stronger, and even your friends can fall to the madness.
Beware the Living Darkness
The branches are gnarled and turning, and the cheerful sounds of birds are disappearing. The trees are becoming overgrown and strange. You’ve entered a shadowy place, and something within it is observing you.
On Brightfall, darkness isn’t simply a lack of light—it actively twists the landscape, deforming trees and stone, and ultimately erases all traces of humanity.
But you are not powerless.
Every torch buys you a minute of sanity.
Use your power carefully to create a safe space amidst darkness, fighting back against decay little by little. The further you venture, the brighter your guiding light needs to be.
Let it fade, and the island will take you back.
Hold the Light—Alone or Together
In Brightfall, you’ll fight to survive alongside up to three other players. You’ll need to work together to find resources, build tools, and protect yourselves from the darkness, all while dealing with the usual squabbles of teamwork – like who left the tinder at home!
Rather travel solo? While the island presents a solitary journey, you won’t be entirely on your own. An old, powerful spirit – a Celtic presence tied to the light – will offer guidance, heal your injuries, and alert you to danger when shadows gather.
Treat your allies with respect, whether they’re alive or ghosts. You never know when you might need their help to get back on your feet—even if that means being rescued from death. If a teammate falls, the others can revive them using a Resurrection Token, which holds the same energy that protects against the darkness.
If you lose everything, the journey is over. The map will be destroyed, the island will revert to its original state, and its landscape will transform again.
Venture into the Unknown
Just outside the safety of your base, you’ll find a constantly changing island. Every time you fail, the land itself shifts – paths twist, familiar places disappear, and new ones emerge in their place.
There’s still hope! Each corrupted area you restore and each ancient beast you defeat creates a sanctuary – a safe haven that remains even after the world resets. These sanctuaries allow you to venture further – into burning deserts, icy cliffs, and ultimately, to the very source of the darkness.
The more you reclaim, the harder the island fights back.
Turn Fire and Iron Into Salvation
You begin with nothing—just your hands and a dim torch. You’ll scavenge for materials, craft basic shelter from scraps, and build a refuge from the elements. Eventually, you’ll forge iron tools, learn to use firearms, and create safe havens that push back the darkness.
Every journey you take helps you gather more resources – from lumber and stone to valuable minerals – and even build automated helpers to collect materials while you’re away. As you collect these resources and discover new designs, your simple base will evolve into a secure and thriving home.
Not all heroes wield swords. Some build the light that lets the rest survive.
Die. Learn. Repeat.
Each adventure in Brightfall is just the start of a larger journey. The game keeps track of your progress and rewards, but always presents new challenges, so you’ll never truly be able to relax.
As you overcome challenges, you gain new skills, discover unique strategies, and learn valuable insights. Each attempt makes you more powerful, unlocking new abilities and allowing you to create your own journey through a dangerous world. You can select from different character classes and appearances, personalize your development, and upgrade your skills without being affected by changes in the game world.
The world changes with every setback, but true understanding remains. In Brightfall, that understanding shines with incredible power.
Survive the Dark, or Become Part of It
Your sanity fades with the light.
Venture too deep into the darkness, and it starts to play tricks on you. What seems like the wind at first turns into the sound of footsteps, and soon you’ll even question yourself, feeling an urge to remain.
The more time you spend here, the more you lose – your vision, your memories, even who you are. Eventually, you become completely devoid of humanity.
If individuals wander too far from the group, they transform into Shadows – creatures without thought who are instinctively drawn to the energy of those they once knew.
Your team is your only hope for rescue – if they react quickly. Either pull your teammate towards the light, or escape while you still can, before the darkness consumes them.
One way or another, everyone answers the dark eventually.
