When we first played Code Vein, it really stood out. Though it initially looked like a typical anime RPG, we discovered a surprisingly rich story and engaging combat system. It’s designed to be more approachable than other ‘Souls-like’ games, making it easier for a broader range of players to enjoy.
Bandai Namco is planning a sequel to Code Vein, expected to be released in 2026. If you’re interested in learning more about Code Vein 2 or are looking forward to a new story within the dark and captivating world of the original game, here’s what you need to know.
It’s time for some more Code Vein!
1. A New Cast For A New Adventure

Because Code Vein 2 won’t continue the story of the first game, it’s natural that it will feature a completely new set of characters. These new characters look like they’ll be a compelling and interesting group to get to know and embark on adventures with.
You play as a nameless Revenant Hunter, encountering characters like Lou MagMell, who protects and guides you, and members of powerful families, each with unique personalities. Lyle McLeish is particularly interesting – his risky behavior and love of danger perfectly complement his fighting style.
2. New Weapons
Weapons from the first game, such as swords, halberds, and spears, will return in the sequel, but some new weapon types are also being added. Rune Swords seem particularly powerful, offering players the chance to deal a lot of damage and withstand enemy attacks.
As a player, I’m really excited about these dual swords! They seem perfect for getting up close and personal with enemies, then quickly creating space again. Plus, they do a ton of damage, whether you’re hitting one enemy hard or taking on a whole group. Honestly, the way they play just feels really good, and I’m definitely motivated to learn all the moves – which is exactly what you want in a game where combat is so important.
3. No Multiplayer Coop

If you enjoyed playing the first game with a friend, you’ll find this one is different. It’s designed as a single-player experience, and you’ll be accompanied by an AI partner instead of another player.
It’s disappointing that the game doesn’t have multiplayer, but we’re hoping it’s still enjoyable as a single-player experience. The lack of coop might actually make the game more challenging, which can be a positive for fans of similar, difficult games. While the developers haven’t confirmed anything, adding multiplayer coop seems likely given how popular it was in the first game.
4. A Solid Combat System
It looks like Code Vein 2 will keep the fantastic combat system from the first game, with some improvements to make it even better. This is great news, as the original Code Vein already had a strong combat system, letting players create powerful combinations and easily defeat enemies.
The sequel could have really engaging combat, especially since it seems to be building on the first game’s foundation. The introduction of enemies that fight back should make battles more exciting, and players who enjoyed powerful attacks in the original will likely appreciate this continuation.
5. A Bigger, Better World
The first Code Vein created a convincing sense of a vast world, but its levels were generally straightforward with limited opportunities to stray off the main path. Code Vein 2 aims to address this, promising a greater emphasis on exploration and a more detailed, open world.
We’re introducing a fresh way to explore a bigger, more immersive world. This update builds on what players already love, aiming to enhance the overall experience.
6. Improved Animations

The game now features new animations designed to create smoother, more fluid combat. You can switch between weapons and attack enemies with greater ease and impact.
This improvement should make the combat in Code Vein 2 even better than the first game, and it will complement the other new features nicely.
7. Improved AI Logic

We’re also making big improvements to how enemies act in combat. The AI was one of the weaker parts of the first game, and better enemy behavior could make up for the fact that there’s no cooperative multiplayer. Your companions will now fight smarter and work better with your abilities during battles.
It will be fascinating to see if this new AI can successfully replace the connection players usually have with a human companion in the game. If it doesn’t work well, the game could receive negative attention.
8. New Locations In A New World
The game features a fresh story and will take players to exciting new locations. You’ll start your adventure at the MagMell base, which will serve as your home base and where you can reunite with your team to strategize.
The game features a wider range of environments and things to do within them compared to the original game.
9. A Structured Exploration Loop

We’ve discussed how Code Vein 2 aims to create a larger and more impressive world, and how you’ll explore it is also being improved. The game will feature a huge open world with richly detailed areas that you can freely roam.
It’s still early to tell how well this will work, but it combines the openness of letting players do anything with a more guided experience. This could create a really exciting and unique way to explore the game world, offering the benefits of both approaches.
So, the game director said the dungeons will be about the same size as the ones in the first game, which is interesting. Honestly, it makes me think they’re downplaying things – maybe they’re actually way bigger and trying to trick us into thinking they’re not!
10. New Forma Attacks
If you enjoyed customizing your gear and defeating enemies using Forma, you’ll be happy to hear that new Forma abilities are coming, along with some old favorites!
These new features will greatly expand the options for creating unique character builds. They’ll let you combine close-combat, magical, and ranged abilities, letting you customize your playstyle to fit your preferences. We’re really looking forward to experimenting with all the possibilities, and they should be especially helpful when facing the game’s challenging bosses.
11. Be A Lone Wolf
You can choose to dismiss your AI companion for a boost to your stats and unlock new skills. This gives you a considerable advantage if you prefer to play alone. It’s a good option to have, and it can also make the game more challenging, as enemies will likely become stronger to compensate for your increased power.
If you’re looking for a really tough challenge and find the game a bit too easy, this could be exactly what you need.
12. Cheat Death A Few Times
If you fall in battle, your companion can revive you. But don’t rely on it too much – there’s a cooldown period to prevent it from being overused, keeping things fair.
Okay, so maybe I can’t actually live forever in-game, but it’s a huge relief knowing I can mess up a bit and still recover. It’s way more fun when you’re not constantly stressed about a single mistake ending everything!
13. Time Is On Your Side

A sequel to Code Vein could offer a more engaging way to uncover the story behind the current world, letting players freely jump between different time periods. However, time travel isn’t without consequences, and players will need to be cautious – changing the past could erase their future.
We’re really excited to learn more about this, and it’s definitely making us look forward to the game’s release.
14. The Space for Self-Expression
First looks at the game highlight its impressive character creation tools. This is a key feature for any role-playing game, letting players customize their experience and stay engaged for a long time.
This new version should be as good as, or even exceed, the quality of the one in the original Code Vein – and that was already excellent.
15. PC Specs
Okay, so if you’re planning to run this game on PC, here’s what I’ve gathered you’ll need. It looks like you’ll want Windows 10 (the 64-bit version), at least an Intel Core i5-7600k or AMD Ryzen 5 1600X processor, and a good 16GB of RAM. For the graphics card, they recommend an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 with 6GB of VRAM, or an AMD Radeon RX 580 with 8GB. You’ll also need DirectX 12, and make sure you have about 75GB of free space on your hard drive!
To run the game smoothly, we recommend at least an Intel Core i5-8400 or AMD Ryzen 5 3600X processor, and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER or AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT graphics card. That covers everything you need to know before getting Code Vein 2! We hope to see you in the game when it releases early next year.
