Colman Domingo Channels Cowardly Lion at Wicked: For Good Premiere

The Academy Award nominee looked incredibly elegant at the New York City premiere of Wicked: For Good on November 17th, playfully bringing the spirit of his Cowardly Lion character to the red carpet.

Colman looked stylish in a Dolce & Gabbana outfit featuring a brown fur coat, tan dress pants, and a v-neck shirt. He finished the ensemble with shiny dress shoes and gold jewelry.

Director Jon M. Chu predicted that adding Colman Domingo to the cast alongside Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo, Michelle Yeoh, and Jeff Goldblum would create a very stylish atmosphere, playfully comparing it to the Met Gala in an October interview with Entertainment Tonight.

Oh my gosh, it wasn’t just how beautifully Colman acted, it was like he was the Cowardly Lion! The director said he just got the character, and honestly, I totally see why. You remember in the first Wicked movie, that little cub Elphaba and Fiyero rescue? That’s the beginning of his story! And in Wicked: For Good, it’s heartbreaking – he actually blames Elphaba for everything that went wrong in his life. It’s so good, and Colman brings all that pain and frustration to the role perfectly!

Oh my gosh, Jon totally gets Timothée! He told ET that Timothée just has this amazing… presence, but it’s like a ‘Cowardly Lion’ kind of thing – you know, strong but with this underlying vulnerability? Jon was convinced Timothée would love playing with that duality, and honestly, he said Timothée was his absolute number one pick for the role! I just knew they’d be perfect together, and it’s so cool to hear Jon say the same thing!

As such, he sent Colman a message, which the Running Man star was stunned to receive.
