Each year brings a wave of new video games, and 2025 was no exception, especially with the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2. However, 2026 promises to be an even more exciting year for gamers. While countless games are released annually, the team at ComicBook has picked our top ten most anticipated titles. You’ll find them listed in order of their release dates, and those without confirmed dates are listed further down in a random order.
1) Resident Evil Requiem

It’s been five years since fans last experienced a new Resident Evil game – Resident Evil Village came out in 2021 – but a new installment is almost here! Resident Evil Requiem will launch on all major consoles on February 27, 2026, and is expected to be one of the first major AAA game releases of the year. The game returns to third-person perspective, though players can also switch to first-person, and delivers the rich story and terrifying creatures fans expect. Requiem follows Grace Ashcroft, an FBI analyst, as she investigates mysterious deaths at the Wrenwood Hotel – the same place where her mother died. Excitement is building for the game’s release after such a long wait.
2) Crimson Desert

Crimson Desert is a brand new game from Pearl Abyss, scheduled to launch on March 19, 2026. Originally planned as a prequel to Black Desert Online, it has since become its own unique single-player adventure. Set in a vast, medieval fantasy world, the game puts players in the role of Kliff, a member of the Greymanes, who must find his friends and restore his order before facing a powerful enemy. Despite some setbacks in development, early looks at Crimson Desert have generated a lot of excitement among gamers.
3) Grand Theft Auto VI

Among all the games scheduled for release in 2026, Grand Theft Auto VI is easily the most awaited. It’s been over a decade since Rockstar Games last released a new GTA game – GTA V came out in 2013. Though Rockstar has continued to support the older game, fans are eager for a new story, and it’s finally arriving on November 19, 2026. The game has faced several delays and was originally planned for release much earlier. The initial May 2026 release date was pushed back in late 2025, so another change is possible. However, even if the date shifts again, it’s unlikely to deter players, as this is a hugely anticipated game and a major step forward for the series.
4) Fable

The original Fable game was a massive hit when it came out in 2004, leading to two sequels. The last installment, Fable III, was released in 2010, and fans have been hoping for a new game ever since. While a 2014 remaster kept the series alive for a while, it hasn’t been much beyond that. Luckily, a completely new Fable game is scheduled to launch in 2026, built for the latest consoles. Currently, there’s no specific release date, but it will be available exclusively on Xbox Series X|S and Windows. It’s rare to see a console-exclusive game still in development, and excitement for this next chapter is high.
5) Invincible VS

The popular animated series Invincible, which airs on Amazon Prime Video, is getting a fighting game called Invincible VS. The game’s art style and voice acting are pulled directly from the show. Invincible VS is a team-based fighter where players build teams of three characters and switch between them during battles to create powerful combos. Eleven characters will be available at launch, and with the franchise’s popularity, more are likely to be added later.
6) Subnautica 2

Subnautica 2 is the highly anticipated sequel to the popular 2018 game, Subnautica, and the third installment in the series. While Subnautica: Below Zero came out in 2021, fans have been eager for the next chapter. Subnautica 2 will first be available in early access sometime in 2026, meaning players will be able to try it out before the full game is finished. Initial previews reveal a major visual upgrade, as this is the first Subnautica game built with Unreal Engine 5. The game’s development has faced some setbacks, so a firm release date is still unknown. When it launches, it will be playable on PC and Xbox Series X|S.
7) Onimusha: Way of the Sword

It’s been a long wait for fans of the Onimusha series, with the last game, Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams, coming out in 2006. Now, after 20 years, Onimusha: Way of the Sword is finally set to release in 2026, and excitement is high. The series was incredibly popular in the early 2000s, leading the action-adventure genre for years, but then it disappeared for a while. Capcom decided to revive it, and development began in 2020, meaning a lot of work has gone into making this new installment great. While the release is planned for 2026, the exact date is still unknown.
8) Gears of War: E-Day

After a long wait, the Gears of War series is returning with Gears of War: E-Day in 2026. This sixth installment is actually a prequel, taking place 14 years before the original game. It focuses on Emergence Day – the devastating event when the Locust Horde first attacked the surface world of Sera. The game introduces a brand new location, the city of Kalona, to the Gears universe. As the first major Gears of War title since 2019’s Gears 5, fans are eager to learn more about the series’ history and see what happened before the events of the first game.
9) Marvel’s Wolverine

If you enjoyed Insomniac Games’ Spider-Man, you’ll likely be very excited about Marvel’s Wolverine. The announcement and gameplay trailers have built a lot of anticipation, and the game looks set to be the next major comic book-based video game. While we don’t have a specific release date yet, it’s currently expected in Fall 2026. Importantly, the game won’t hold back on the violence, staying true to the often-brutal nature of Wolverine in the comics.
10) Phantom Blade Zero

Phantom Blade Zero is a highly anticipated action role-playing game that looks fantastic based on what’s been shown so far. Players will step into the role of Soul, an assassin working for an organization called The Order, and investigate the mysterious death of its leader. This single-player game, played from a third-person perspective, focuses heavily on combat. The game features a semi-open world with diverse regions to explore. Originally planned for late 2025, Phantom Blade Zero is now expected to release sometime in 2026.
