
Since Electronic Arts (EA) announced it would be acquired by PIF, Silver Lake, and Affinity Partners, some fans are worried about the future of popular game series. Specifically, there’s concern about the next Mass Effect game, as it’s currently BioWare’s main project following a company reorganization that included layoffs for the Dragon Age: The Veilguard team.
One positive sign for fans of the series is that Jennifer Hale, the original voice of Commander Shepard, is open to reprising a role. She told IGN she’s happy to voice any character, not just the one she’s known for.
I’m a huge fan of that universe and eager to return to it whenever they need me. I’d love to play any role – a Krogan, Salarian, Turian, or something completely new! While BioWare hasn’t asked me to reprise my role in the next game, I’d accept immediately. I’ve encouraged fans to let BioWare know they’d like me to come back, too.
Even if she’s included in the game, the next Mass Effect is still likely a ways off. BioWare confirmed in February 2024 that development was in its early stages, and some reports suggest it won’t be released until 2029. The project director, Michael Gamble, has said it will feature realistic graphics and keep the same mature themes as the original Mass Effect trilogy, but details beyond that are scarce.
