Conan O’Brien Details Getting “Dragged Into” Rob Reiner Tragedy

Conan O’Brien is reflecting on an unimaginable tragedy.

It was so incredibly sad to learn about Rob and Michele Singer Reiner. They were a lovely couple, and I had the pleasure of seeing them just the day before at my wife Liza and my holiday party. Their son, Nick, was with them too. We’re all just heartbroken to hear they were found passed away at their home on December 14th.

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Conan explained that they had hosted a party with close friends when a tragic event occurred. He emphasized that any personal difficulties his wife and he faced as a result of the situation paled in comparison to the immense grief and loss experienced by the family of Rob and Michele.

He explained that when you’re a public figure, your name will inevitably be associated with unfortunate events, but he doesn’t see it as a personal struggle. He simply feels sorrow for those who have passed away.

Rob Reiner, the director of When Harry Met Sally, and his wife were at Conan’s holiday party with their son, Nick, just a day before they were found dead from stab wounds. They also shared two other children, Jake, 34, and Romy, 27.

On December 14th, Nick was arrested and accused of murdering his parents. He was formally charged with two counts of first-degree murder, but he has entered a plea of not guilty.

Conan recently shared how shocked he was to learn that Rob, who is also the father of 61-year-old Tracy Reiner with the late Penny Marshall, and Michele had passed away shortly after visiting his home.

He described the shock of saying goodnight to someone and then learning the next day they had passed away. “I was in shock for a long time,” he told The New Yorker in a February 20th article. “It was just awful, truly awful.”

The former Late Night cast member also mentioned that before the tragic event, he and Liza had become increasingly good friends with Rob and Michele.

He described them as wonderful people. He then reflected on Rob’s passion for current events and his dedication to being involved. Losing Rob’s perspective so suddenly, he said, is still difficult to process.
