Conner Smith is speaking out on his involvement in a deadly car accident.
The country artist released his initial remarks following the passing of Dorothy Dobbins, the 77-year-old pedestrian who tragically lost her life when he hit her with his truck on a street in Nashville on June 8th.
Approximately four weeks ago, I was sadly part of a car accident that claimed a life. Ever since then, I haven’t let a single day pass without feeling sorrow, offering prayers, and expressing my condolences to the family of the late Ms. Dobbins. (Instagram post dated July 11 by Smith)
In an unprecedented manner, my spirit is shattered, and I find myself grappling with a heaviness I’ve never encountered before. I implore you all to keep the Dobbins family in your prayers, specifically mentioning their names. Let us ask for divine serenity to envelop them daily, providing comfort and strength as they navigate through this challenging time.
The 24-year-old further discussed his choice to withdraw from several shows in Ohio following the unfortunate incident. He clarified that his intention was to provide a moment of reflection and mourning.
Smith expressed that creating music and performing has been a therapeutic space for them, but at this point, it was crucial for them to step aside temporarily.
Meanwhile, away from the stage, the artist behind “The Creek Will Rise” expressed that he has been finding solace in his faith as he copes with Dobbins’ passing.
He expressed his gratitude for serving a compassionate God who stands by the sorrowful. He mentioned that in tough times, he has constantly sought His support. Moreover, he shared that through hardships, he discovered that God’s faithfulness surpasses anything he previously understood about Him.

The authorities stated in a press release dated June 9th that, at the moment of the accident, there were no indications of Smith being impaired. They added that the initial cause of the crash seemed to be Smith’s lack of giving priority to the pedestrian’s right of way.
According to his lawyer Worrick G Robinson IV, the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department handed him a misdemeanor citation on July 10th.
Conner expresses profound gratitude towards the MNPD for their diligent work in investigating the unfortunate incident, and has consistently collaborated with them. This sentiment is especially extended to Ms. Dobbins’ family. In tribute to her memory, Conner pledges ongoing support for initiatives that enhance pedestrian safety and aim to prevent similar incidents from happening again.” (Attorney’s statement to TopMob News)
