Remedy Entertainment has announced its next major game, Control Resonant, which is scheduled to release in 2026. Unlike the original Control, which starred Jesse Faden, this sequel will follow her brother and offers a unique and distinct atmosphere.
When a catastrophic event strikes Manhattan, Dylan is sent by the Federal Bureau of Control to restore order. He’s also on a personal quest for redemption and searching for Jesse, leading players to question how much time has passed since the events of FBC: Firebreak.
According to a recent PlayStation Blog post, Mikael Kasurinen, co-creative director, says that Resonant represents the team’s biggest move yet in building out the world of Control. While it was already known as an action RPG, the game will also be open-ended, featuring large areas of Manhattan with many different missions, encounters, and events that players can complete in any order they choose.
As a fan, I’m really struck by how vibrant and unique this world feels – it’s the kind of place you can keep coming back to, and you’re always rewarded for just wandering around and checking things out. It feels truly alive!
Players have a lot of flexibility in how they approach combat with Dylan, thanks to a robust progression system. You can choose to use the Aberrant, a close-combat weapon that complements the main Service Weapon, or focus on developing various abilities – even manipulating the environment – to overcome challenges.
The combination of Dylan’s growing abilities and the unpredictable environment creates combat that’s quick, intense, and feels very similar to the game Control. Kasurinen called each fight an “experiment in chaos,” which perfectly describes the state of the city.
The rhythm-action game Control Resonant is launching on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC. Keep an eye out for more information in the months ahead.
