Control Resonant Reaffirmed As “Open-Ended” Instead of Open World, Set 7 Years After Control

So, Remedy dropped some hints about Control Resonant at The Game Awards, and everyone’s hyped! They’re not showing everything just yet, but they’ve described it as an open-ended action RPG. I read an interview with the creative director, Mikael Kasurinen, and he said to expect really fast movement, crazy environments that are all warped, and some seriously mind-bending powers and weapons. Sounds awesome, right? I can’t wait to learn more!

According to Kasurinen, what will really set their game apart is how players move around – despite the intense action and strange worlds, including a frightening version of Manhattan after the Hiss escaped from the Oldest House.

We’ve developed a really distinctive approach to movement, and our combination of close combat, fast-paced action, and supernatural powers feels truly unique.

The sequel, Control Resonant, is set seven years after the original game. After waking up from a coma, Dylan gains access to a new weapon called the Apparent and begins fighting the enemies that have taken over the city. While it’s unclear how he’ll restore order, he’s also searching for Jesse, who has vanished under mysterious circumstances.

It’s unclear where his path will take him, but he’ll face incredibly difficult decisions that will impact the future of humankind. He might even be forced to choose between his sister and saving the world, and only time will reveal what he does.

Remedy Entertainment plans to release Control Resonant later this year on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC – it won’t be coming out in the spring. The studio is calling this its largest and most ambitious project yet, while also striving to create something truly unique and avoid playing it safe.
