As a huge fan of Remedy games, I’ve always been fascinated by how they portray the human mind – it’s not just a place where thoughts live, but something incredibly powerful, and even dangerous. We saw hints of this in Alan Wake 2 with the Mind Place, but Control Resonant seems like they’re taking that idea to a whole new level with something called ‘The Gap’. And trust me, it’s not what you’re thinking – it’s not about shopping!
A recent YouTube Short showed that the Gap isn’t just for fighting – it’s always accessible and changes to provide what the main character, Dylan Faden, requires. Essentially, it’s where he’ll unlock and develop his skills, special powers (called Resonant abilities), and even gain Aberrant upgrades, abilities, and talents.
The game lets you create and test your ideal character build before returning to Manhattan. This suggests players are free to experiment with different setups, and once you leave the starting area, your choices become permanent. It’s a good system that encourages players to try different ways of playing.
The game will also let you choose rewards after beating tough enemies called Resonants. We’re still waiting for full confirmation, but it looks like the Shield ability, which players may remember from the first Control, will be returning.
Remedy Entertainment’s new game, Control Resonant, is coming to Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC later this year. It was created by the largest team Remedy has ever assembled. The good news is you don’t need to have played the first Control game to enjoy it!
