Hiro Mashima is a well-known manga artist who began his career in 1998 and has created numerous series and short stories. He’s most famous for *Fairy Tail*, an action-packed fantasy series that has gained a large following due to its imaginative world, interesting magic system, and memorable characters. While popular, *Fairy Tail* also receives criticism for its overuse of fan service and its frequent focus on the importance of friendship. Despite these criticisms, the series has both notable strengths and weaknesses, and it brought Mashima international acclaim, including a Kodansha Manga Award in 2009.
I remember when *Fairy Tail* first came out in 2006 – it was a long run, ending in 2017. It was great to see it come back with a sequel, *100 Years Quest*, with new art by Ueda Atsuo. The original manga got a full anime adaptation by A-1 Pictures, but the anime sequel, done by J.C. Staff, finished its first season in January 2025 and we’re still waiting to hear about Season 2. What’s really interesting is that Hiro Mashima, the creator, didn’t take a break after *Fairy Tail* ended and has been working on other projects. Now, @MangaMoguraRE on X has shared that he’s starting *another* new series! We don’t know much about it yet, but it sounds like it’s planned to be a long-running one, which is different from the one-shot manga he put out earlier this year.
Fairy Tail’s Creator Will Be Working on Simultaneous Projects

I’ve been following Hiro Mashima’s work since 2018 when he started *Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest*. He’s writing the story, and Atsuo Ueda is handling the illustrations. That same year, he also launched *Eden’s Zero*, a sci-fi fantasy, in *Weekly Shonen Jump*, which recently concluded in 2024. But he didn’t stop there! In 2023, he started another monthly series called *Dead Rock*, and he’s doing both the story and the art for that one too. It was originally planned as a short manga of around 15 chapters, but it’s already up to 28 and there’s no end in sight yet.
This series takes place at the most prestigious school in the demon world and has a more mature tone than the author’s previous work. In July, the author released a surprise short story to celebrate the 45th anniversary of *Weekly Young Magazine*. Called *1993*, this marks the author’s first venture into the Seinen genre, and it features a fictionalized version of the author and his friend as rebellious teenagers.
I’m so excited about Hiro Mashima’s new manga! It’s inspired by his and a friend’s experiences with *Weekly Young Magazine* back in the ’90s, which sounds really personal and cool. He’s already hard at work on the first chapter, and it’s going to be a weekly series – that’s a fast turnaround! Plus, after it launches, he’ll be juggling *three* projects at once. It’s amazing how dedicated he is, but honestly, it also makes me a little worried he’s taking on too much.
