The actor, who faced significant controversy and accusations of disturbing behavior, is returning to the screen after a three-year hiatus. Following allegations of cannibalism and sexual assault, he appeared to be ostracized by the film industry, but now has a new movie project underway.
Armie Hammer recently appeared in Kenneth Branagh’s Death on the Nile, part of the Hercule Poirot series. He’s now returning to the screen with Frontier Crucible, a new Western film. Well Go USA has just released the first trailer for Frontier Crucible, which is set to be released in theaters and digitally on December 5, 2025. You can watch the trailer below.
Okay, so the trailer for Frontier Crucible really grabbed me. It starts with this sheriff basically laying it all out – folks are sick, and the only one who can deal with the Apache is a guy named Merrick Beckford. It’s set way back in 1874 Arizona, and he quickly realizes he can’t do it alone. He ends up teaming up with a bunch of outlaws, but it’s clear the journey isn’t going to be a walk in the park. It looks like things get pretty rough for them right away!
Travis Mills, the director of the well-received 2022 Western film Terror on the Prairie (which earned 80% and 81% approval ratings from critics and audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, respectively), is directing Frontier Crucible. The new film is adapted from Harry Whittington’s 1961 novel, Desert Stake-Out.
The cast of Frontier Crucible includes Thomas Jane, known for Play Dirty, William H. Macy from Shameless, and Joshua Odjick, who appeared in It: Welcome to Derry. Myles Clohessy, Mary Stickley, Eli Brown, Ryan Masson, Zane Holtz, and Eddie Spears also star in the film.
A wagon carrying vital medical supplies is ambushed by Apache warriors. The only hope of getting the supplies to where they’re needed is a man named Merrick Beckford, who must team up with three ruthless outlaws. However, after they mistakenly kill an Apache scout, a desperate fight for survival begins.
Armie Hammer Thinks His Acting Career Is Back on Track
After a three-year break from acting following his appearance in Death on the Nile, the actor recently announced he’s now at a point in his career where he can selectively choose projects. He shared this news during an interview on the Your Mom’s House podcast with Christina Pazsitszy and Tom Segura, explaining he’s comfortable turning down roles that don’t interest him.
He shared that he had just finished filming a movie, Frontier Crucible, and was also developing a potential TV series that a studio head had approved. He said it felt good to be working again, though he hesitated to say he was fully ‘back’ in the game, clarifying that he was simply actively working on projects.
While Frontier Crucible isn’t Armie Hammer’s first Western – he previously starred in a 2013 film that didn’t do well with critics or audiences – he has two more action projects on the way. These include The Dark Knight, directed by Uwe Boll, and Night Driver, from John Bevilacqua.
Frontier Crucible premieres in theaters and on digital on Dec. 5, via Well Go USA.
