For those who game on PC, Steam offers a huge variety of games. It’s home to many well-known free-to-play titles, including Infinity Nikki and Path of Exile, among others. But one game that used to be very popular is soon leaving the platform. Although this removal might not be forever, it’s a positive move for a game that has faced quite a bit of criticism since it was first released.
The game we’re discussing is the multiplayer mystery RPG Traitors in Salem. This social deduction game first came out in 2022 and was initially popular with players. People enjoyed how it played, describing it as a Town of Salem take on Among Us. However, the game has recently received a lot of negative feedback because it’s currently unplayable. The game’s servers have been down for over a year, but players were still able to make purchases within the game. Fortunately, the game now has a new publisher who seems ready to fix these problems.
New Traitors in Salem Publisher Lays Out Plan to Address Controversy
Even though the servers for Traitors in Salem have been offline for a while, people could still download the game. What’s even more annoying is that the in-game store, where players could spend money, was still working. This included the option to buy a game key needed to host a game. So, players could potentially spend real money on this free game without realizing they couldn’t actually play it due to the server issues.
A lot of recent reviews have strongly criticized the developers, even calling them scammers, because they haven’t been communicating with players and still allow purchases in a game that isn’t working properly. The last update for Traitors in Salem came out in September 2022, right after the game officially launched. Since then, there’s been no news, which has left many players feeling frustrated. However, the game now has a new publisher, Digital Bandidos, and they are planning some significant improvements.
I was really bummed to hear that Digital Bandidos is taking Traitors in Salem off Steam on September 30th. Apparently, the servers have been messed up for ages, and because it’s a game that *needs* other people to play, nobody’s been able to actually enjoy it. It’s a shame, but they haven’t ruled out bringing it back someday, which is a little bit of good news, I guess!
According to a recent post from Digital Bandidos, the team is exploring ways to improve the troubled game. While plans aren’t finalized, they’re considering a few different paths. These include bringing the game back online after fixing and updating it, or offering it as a free addition to Town of Salem 2. Another possibility is for Digital Bandidos to completely rebuild the game, incorporating the most popular features of Traitors in Salem into a new title-one that, hopefully, will function smoothly.
Currently, the listing for Traitors in Salem is still available. However, it will be removed from the store in the next few days, and it’s uncertain if or when it will be relisted. Digital Bandidos hasn’t mentioned anything about offering refunds for purchases made within the game or for premium access.
