Lately, Mojang has been quite enthusiastic about copper. They’ve recently added the Copper Golem, a mob that initially lost the public vote in 2021, and also introduced copper tools and armor. It seems like copper is now getting its well-deserved attention in Minecraft.
It seemed like the copper revival was over, but with Snapshot 25w32a, it appears that Mojang has some unexpected surprises for Minecraft.
Copper gets a glow-up in the latest Snapshot for Java Edition
In an unexpected turn of events, it was Mojang who unveiled a fresh update on August 5, 2025, introducing copper torches to the game. Functioning identically to conventional torches, these new ones exhibit a unique, oxidizing copper appearance.
In addition to more traditional light sources, we’ve incorporated antique-style copper lanterns as well, contributing to the same vintage ambiance. The copper light fixtures also offer a green hue, which is our first introduction of a colored light source since the soul torch, introduced back in 2020.
As an analyst, I’m excited to share that we’ve introduced more than just aesthetic additions for your builds. For instance, copper chains, a fresh take on our previous iron chains, and copper bars, have made their grand entrance. Just as anticipated, these new elements align perfectly with the oxidation stages of other devices in the copper family, ensuring a harmonious fit within your collection.
Crafting each of these new items is fairly straightforward:
- Copper Torch: Made using 1 Copper Nugget, 1 Stick, and 1 Coal
- Copper Lantern: Surround 1 Copper Torch with 8 Copper Nuggets
- Copper Chain: Place 1 Copper Ingot in the center with 1 Copper Nugget above it and 1 Copper Nugget below it
- Copper Bars: Crafted using 6 Copper Ingots
Is more to come with the Copper renaissance?

As a fervent admirer, it’s clear that Mojang is significantly amplifying the utility of copper beyond mere decorative blocks, and I can hardly contain my excitement to witness the masterpieces that will emerge from this expansion! The ingenuity already displayed in using copper golems as statues gives a tantalizing glimpse into the creative possibilities ahead.
As a tech enthusiast, I find myself drawn to the growing importance of copper in our creations. Each stage of oxidation imbues structures with a sense of depth and dynamism that breathes life into them over time. It’s fascinating to see how each copper component subtly transforms, providing a timeline of its own existence, offering a silent yet eloquent testament to its history.
Incorporating copper elements like chains, bars, lanterns, and torches enhances the consistency among our available building designs. However, these additions also serve to emphasize what remains as yet unincorporated elements in the setup.
In the 1.21 update, copper trapdoors became available, however, other items such as copper fences and gates are yet to come. If Mojang considers adding copper torches, it seems that no idea is out of reach.
In my opinion, it’s fascinating to imagine copper being utilized for beacons, similar to how iron, gold, diamond, and netherite are currently used. This would elevate the significance of copper in the end game and further solidify its status as a valuable mid-tier resource.
Although it may not offer the most practical benefit, given the widespread availability of copper and the aesthetic appeal of weathered beacons, it seems intriguing to consider this as a potential enhancement for individuals who value the distinctive charm of copper structures.
There’s still more I’d love to see from Mojang
Currently, Minecraft seems to be buzzing with activity as fresh features keep being added. With the latest addition of shelves, the anticipation among players is sky-high as we wonder what new surprises might be in store for us next.
On a personal note, I’m keen on incorporating refreshing changes, especially for copper fencing, gates, and similar elements, to enliven existing landscapes even more. Furthermore, I eagerly anticipate a substantial update for the End biome, as it currently seems to be the least captivating of the three dimensions.
