Todd Grimshaw, played by Gareth Pierce, might soon be able to leave his controlling and abusive partner, Theo Silverton, played by James Cartwright, on Coronation Street.
Following months of physical and emotional abuse, where Theo controlled Todd’s money and repeatedly embarrassed him in public, and after being connected to the death of Todd’s friend Billy, Theo has left Todd.
After nearing a complete collapse last year, Todd finally broke down yesterday, begging Theo to end his suffering and use the knife he was holding against his chest.
The argument started after a chaotic dinner at the Viaduct Bistro. Todd made his partner, who was short on money, pay for everyone’s meals – including those of their friends Gary Windass and Maria Connor. When Todd couldn’t cover the bill himself, Theo paid it, then went home and angrily confronted him about it.
A fierce argument erupted, and Theo started throwing coffee, milk, mugs, and spoons around the room.

Today on the show, Gary caught him sleeping in his van. The night before, Gary had made Todd clean up a mess, which then caused Todd to miss his shift at the funeral home.
Theo hinted that they’d argued about money, and Gary decided to try and fix the situation.
He went to Todd’s apartment and was surprised to see him angrily throw a blender across the room. After he got Todd to calm down, they had a serious conversation where Todd confessed he wanted to fix their relationship.

Theo can be wonderful when he’s at his best, but his lows are truly awful. Todd is so caught up in the cycle of abuse that he still holds onto the hope that Theo is a good person deep down.
Gary shared the news with Theo, and Theo decided to be honest and upfront. He told Todd that their relationship couldn’t be fixed and that they should probably admit it was over.
After sliding off his engagement ring, Theo waltzed out the door and left Todd heartbroken.
But could this be the perfect opportunity for him to speak up about the abuse?
Coronation Street airs weeknights at 8:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
