Coronation Street airs reckless Bernie Winter-Alahan scenes as she enters self-destruct mode in ITVX release

Billy Mayhew’s death has deeply affected Bernie Winter-Alahan, bringing back painful memories of losing her son, Paul Foreman.

Bernie has experienced significant loss in the past couple of years, losing people who were very important to her. Unlike those around her who expressed their sadness openly, she has been coping with her grief privately.

The funeral for Billy was clearly upsetting for her, and when she got home, she angrily confronted her husband, Dev, before going to bed.

He suggested she take a day off, but Bernie really wanted things to return to normal. However, the talk about the ceremony at the cafe became a bit much for everyone.

She hurried outside right as things started to get chaotic. A man ran past her and suddenly confronted Roy Cropper, hitting him after handing him a bouquet of flowers.

It turned out the angry man was actually Mal Roper (Tim Treloar), Alice’s husband – and Alice was Roy’s pen pal. Mal was furious to discover they’d been writing to each other for months, and he immediately jumped to the conclusion that Roy and Alice were having an affair.

Even though he’d been told his wife was faithful, Mal was still troubled and went to the Chariot Square Hotel to drink and cope with his feelings.

Bernie was getting ready to go to the pub with her friends, but Dev cautioned her against it.

She was convinced a little indulgence would help, so she started accepting Maggie Driscoll’s (Pauline McLynn) generous offer of discounted drinks. It quickly became clear she was overdoing it, and she eventually moved her social activities to another location.

On her way to the hotel, she met a sad Mal, and they quickly became friends. They started talking about their problems, and when the hotel manager, Ryan Connor, asked them to be quieter, they went back to his room to continue their conversation.

Things took an unsettling turn when Bernie started using drugs, and she and Mal began dancing together. It became obvious Mal was hoping for a more intimate connection, but Bernie stopped him after a kiss, reminding him she was married.

Dev was worried when he got home and couldn’t find her. Soon after, her friends, who had been drinking, arrived with kebabs, and Dev immediately tried to reach her.

While Mal was sleeping, she rested next to him on the hotel bed, but Ryan returned to scold her. He told her there had been multiple complaints about noise and insisted she leave.

But the episode ended with a surprising reveal: she had actually gone to a nightclub and passed out near a restroom.

Will Bernie be ok?
