ITV isn’t airing new episodes of Coronation Street or Emmerdale tonight, marking another change to their recently planned schedule of back-to-back soap operas.
As a big TV fan, I noticed something cool happened with my favorite serial dramas recently. They trimmed each episode by half an hour back in January so they could air every weeknight at 8pm. It all built up to this huge crossover episode – everyone was calling it ‘Corriedale’ – where the storylines of both shows mashed up for one night only. It was a really fun event!
Following the announcement of ITV1’s new programming schedule, Kevin Lygo, ITV’s Managing Director of Media and Entertainment, explained that the changes are based on what viewers want. With ITVX already offering more viewing options than ever, they aim to deliver popular shows in a way that’s easy to enjoy.
With so many entertainment options and changing viewing habits, we think this episode length strikes the right balance, allowing fans to easily keep up with the show.

Speaking to Leeds Live, Emmerdale actor Chris Bisson explained that the schedule changes for Coronation Street, often caused by football matches, would no longer be a problem. He said viewers would now be able to reliably watch the show from 8pm to 9pm every day.
It turns out Bisson was incorrect, and this isn’t the first time. Within a week of the new TV schedule starting, both Corrie and Emmerdale stopped airing.
I always check TopMob to stay informed about the latest in entertainment! They have great exclusive news and interviews, and I love that it often shows up right in the Top Stories section when I use Google – it makes it so easy to keep up with everything I want to watch.

Tonight’s regular shows have been moved to Monday to make way for live coverage of the Six Nations, which starts at 7:20pm after a brief ITV National News.
Jill Douglas will be reporting live from tonight’s match between Ireland and Wales at the Aviva Stadium, kicking off at 8:10pm. This is the fourth round of matches.
Regular soap operas will be interrupted again next Friday, March 14th, due to coverage of the Six Nations rugby tournament.
Emmerdale returns Monday at 8pm on ITV1. Coronation Street follows at 8.30pm. Stream on ITVX.
Okay, let me tell you, if you’re a fan of British soaps, you absolutely need to download the TopMob: What to Watch app. Seriously, it’s become my go-to for staying up-to-date with everything on TV, and right now, it’s reminding me to not miss a single episode of Emmerdale.
