Another departure is on the way for Coronation Street.
As a long-time soap fan, I was thrilled to see Coronation Street take home Best Soap at the Inside Soap Awards 2025! But it’s been a bit of a year of change on the cobbles, hasn’t it? We’ve said goodbye to some really popular characters – I was sad to see Daisy Midgeley (Charlotte Jordan) and Eileen Grimshaw (Sue Cleaver) leave. It definitely feels like a new chapter for the show, and Inside Soap has all the details.
However, according to a report from Express.co.uk, the actress Channique Sterling-Brown – who is known for playing the popular lawyer Dee-Dee Bailey on the soap opera – is leaving her role. She is currently filming her last episodes, which are scheduled to air later this month.
It appears Sterling-Brown is looking for new roles, and we’ve been told her departure from the soap opera was definitely her own choice.
From what I’ve heard, it sounds like she’ll still be appearing on screen until the end of the year, even with her reported departure. It’s good to know we’ll have a little more time to see her! I understand the timeline means we won’t lose her immediately, and she’ll be on screen until the end of the year. I’m a bit sad to see her go eventually, but I’m glad to have some time left with her character. You can find more details here.
So, I’m hearing from someone on the inside that they’ve put up posters around the Corrie set – you know, behind the scenes. It’s pretty much an open secret now that Channique is leaving, and apparently the cast has already been told. It’s all over the place, honestly!

Dee-Dee became part of the Bailey family on Coronation Street in 2022 and rapidly won over viewers. Sterling-Brown received the Best Newcomer award at the British Soap Awards in 2023, recognizing her popular appeal.
Sterling-Brown’s main story arc revolved around her connection with the antagonistic lawyer, Joel Deering (played by Calum Lill), and it reached a dramatic peak in 2024 with Joel’s violent death.

Dee-Dee later gave birth to a daughter by Joel, named Laila Bailey.
We don’t yet know the specifics of Dee-Dee’s departure, but it follows quickly after producer Iain McLeod hinted that a character will die. Will Dee-Dee be safe?
This news follows Jenny Bradley (Sally Ann Matthews) leaving in Wednesday’s episode (October 1st, 2025). The writers decided to remove her character from the soap opera.
