“With God as my witness, I’ll kill you!”
Bernie Winter-Alahan’s (Jane Hazlegrove) final words on Coronation Street, spoken shortly before her stalker Mal Roper (Tim Treloar) was assaulted, might have serious consequences.
Last month, after the funeral of her son-in-law Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank), Bernie went to the Chariot Square Hotel to cope with her grief.
She found Mal feeling just as upset, having discovered his wife was writing letters to Roy Cropper. He jumped to the conclusion she was being unfaithful, and decided to retaliate by trying to seduce Bernie himself.
They were drinking, listening to loud music, and using drugs. Mal attempted to kiss Bernie, but she pushed him away after a quick kiss.

It was obvious he still thought about their memorable night together, and lately he’d been trying hard to win her over. He pretended to be interested in her spirituality, gave her generous tips at the cafe, and even opened up to her about his personal feelings when they were alone.
Bernie insisted that she was committed to husband Dev Alahan (Jimmi Harkishin), and he lashed out.
Yesterday, she shared what she’d been through with Dev, and he was upset. He didn’t agree with the risky choices she’d made and felt she was responsible for her own troubles.

I remember a scene in this movie where the female lead really confronted the guy – she basically cornered him on the street and laid down the law. She didn’t beat around the bush at all; she flat-out told him that if he didn’t stop bothering her, she’d kill him. It was a pretty intense moment!
In today’s episode, Bernie continued to express her feelings for Dev, admitting she wished she’d told him earlier about her regrettable night and apologizing for keeping her time with Mal a secret.
At the Weatherfield police station, Lisa Swain informed Kit Green that a man with a severe head injury had been discovered in the street and rushed to the hospital, where his condition is critical.

Kit was shocked to realise that the man was none other than Mal.
Back at the house, Bernie started packing to leave Dev. He noticed how upset she was and pleaded with her to give him another chance.
Kit went back to talk to Sarah about the attack, but he kept his suspicion that Bernie was behind it to himself. He was shocked to hear from Lisa that Detective Sergeant Browning had found a lead and was going to arrest the person responsible.
Just as Bernie was locking up the cafe for the night, Officer Browning arrived to arrest her, suspecting her of assault.
But was she really responsible?
