Fans of Coronation Street experienced quite a surprise on September 8, 2025, when it was revealed in that day’s episode that beloved character Tyrone Dobbs, portrayed by Alan Halsall, had unfortunately become the victim of a tragic hit-and-run accident.
With Tyrone being hurried to the hospital, his wife Fiz (Jennie McAlpine) was filled with anxiety as she waited for updates alongside their children, Tyrone’s mother Cassie (Claire Sweeney), and grandmother Evelyn Plummer (Maureen Lipman).
The previous episode ended with a doctor delivering news to Fiz, and more recently, it’s been disclosed on ITV soap that Tyrone will have sustained a grave spinal injury due to the accident.
Next week, it seems that Tyrone’s path to healing will be a challenging one. In poignant moments, you’ll see him confiding in Fiz that he currently lacks the ability to feel or move his legs.
With the police searching for the driver, it appears to be a difficult road ahead for Tyrone and his family, as Brody Michaelis (Ryan Mulvey) and Dylan Wilson (Liam McCheyne) claim they did not strike him, despite their claims.
Coronation Street is collaborating with the Spinal Injuries Association on a powerful storyline, and a representative from the charity expressed gratitude for ITV studios and Coronation Street’s efforts in raising awareness about the traumatic impact of spinal cord injuries, including sudden paralysis, managing chronic pain, and dealing with long-term mobility issues.

The Spinal Injuries Association has provided their medical knowledge and advice to portray, to the best of our ability, the experiences of individuals going through a situation comparable to that of Tyrone.
Examining Fiz’s life and its influence on those close to him can provide a relatable perspective for the approximately 105,000 individuals in the UK living with spinal cord injuries. Many of these individuals often face challenges in obtaining necessary care and specialist assistance.
As a true movie enthusiast, let me share my thoughts on an unexpected turn for Tyrone’s character – a twist that wasn’t leaked to the press ahead of time. I believe this plot development is bound to catch viewers off guard!
It’s already been ten weeks since we filmed it, and surprisingly, nobody knew about Tyrone being the one who got struck in the end. Given the unexpected turn of events, it would have come as quite a surprise.
It’s beneficial to maintain an engaging atmosphere for your viewers, as I eagerly anticipate observing their responses.
When asked to describe his state upon waking in the hospital, Tyrone shared that he was initially bewildered. He couldn’t recall the specifics of what had transpired, and he was uncertain as to the reason behind his admission to the hospital.
After regaining consciousness and evidently experiencing intense pain, he suddenly recognizes that something is amiss, for he can no longer feel his legs.
There’s an overwhelming sense of concern as he ponders his location and the reasons behind his feelings. He is absolutely petrified.
Inquired about Tyrone’s mental state after the recent events, Halsall revealed: “At first, there was worry that he might not find the strength to rise again.
There’s a genuine sense of apprehension present, extending beyond Tyrone himself to involve Fiz, their children, his mother, and even his grandmother.
They are uncertain whether he’ll be able to walk again or what his life will be like in the future. However, he understands that everyone will make an effort to stand by each other as they navigate whatever comes next.
Halsall commended Coronation Street for their commitment to exploring spinal injuries through thorough research, and shared that he frequently monitored ways to realistically depict Tyrone’s movements on-camera.
Regarding Tyrone’s explanation for his injuries, it appears he feels quite frustrated about who caused them and angry because the authorities haven’t been able to provide any solutions.
“He’d like some form of justice for this accident and to at least find out who it was.”
Coronation Street is working with Spinal Injuries Association on Tyrone’s story.
