Summer Spellman (Harriet Bibby) is struggling with grief after the death of Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank), who died in a recent car crash. She’s been acting out as a result of her loss.
Billy was driving a minibus near Weatherfield when it crashed into several other cars. It was a chaotic scene, and everyone seemed focused only on saving themselves, with no one stopping to help.
After realizing he was still trapped, Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce) asked his abusive partner, Theo Silverton (James Cartwright), to come and get him.
Instead, Theo saw this as a chance to stop Billy from revealing how badly he’d treated Todd.

Police now believe Debbie Webster (Sue Devaney) is responsible for what happened. They discovered her ‘brother’ Carl (Jonathan Howard) staged the scene by towing her body behind the car to make it look like she was to blame.
Debbie appeared remarkably calm after the incident. She took responsibility for driving, dismissed her family’s worries, and entered a guilty plea.
It was later revealed that she acted out of deep guilt. Viewers learned she is actually Carl’s mother and had given him to her father, Bill, and his wife, Elaine, to raise as their own child back in 1986.

In this episode, Debbie started getting her life organized, knowing she was probably going to be imprisoned.
After calling off their honeymoon and informing her husband, Ronnie Bailey, that she was taking control of the business finances, he quickly discovered that everyone was talking about the recent accident – and the rumors surrounding Debbie’s possible role in it.
At the funeral home, Summer was devastated when Billy’s body arrived. She couldn’t accept that he was gone, and had already confided in Todd that each morning felt like reliving the pain of his loss.

Debbie was chatting and laughing with Ronnie nearby, completely oblivious to what was happening.
Summer suddenly confronted Debbie, angrily accusing her of killing Billy and hitting her. Ronnie attempted to soothe Debbie, but also believed Debbie was to blame.
Will Carl ever get his comeuppance?
