Coronation Street’s Theo Silverton holds a knife to Todd Grimshaw in distressing early ITVX release

Todd Grimshaw, played by Gareth Pierce, has recently suffered more abuse from his partner, Theo Silverton, played by James Cartwright, on Coronation Street.

In the latest episode of the ITV soap, Theo’s abuse of Todd escalated shockingly: after already physically and verbally abusing him, controlling his money, and making fun of how he looks, Theo now threatened him with a knife.

The episode began with Todd and Summer Spellman giving a birthday gift to the villain. Theo quickly noticed the t-shirt Summer bought was too small, but she didn’t say anything when Summer explained she was thankful for Todd and him taking her in after the death of her father figure, Billy Mayhew.

As fans will recall, Theo let Billy die in a car crash during the special Emmerdale episode, and he’s been struggling with immense guilt ever since.

When he opened Todd’s gift – a food blender – he couldn’t hide his anger and pointedly reminded Todd that he was paying for their birthday dinner. Todd realized this meant he’d have to use the money he’d gotten from pawning Billy’s cufflinks last week.

Theo invited Gary Windass and Maria Connor to join them at the Bistro, but he was secretly annoyed that Todd was late. When Todd finally arrived, he immediately ordered pricey drinks and insisted on paying for everyone’s meal.

Gary and Maria appreciated the kind treatment, and as Todd prepared to pay, he asked Nick Tilsley, the owner, for a small favor. He explained that his card wasn’t working and asked if he could pay the £80 bill within a couple of days.

Nick hesitated to accept the IOU, and Theo noticed the awkwardness. Theo stepped in to ask what was wrong, and ultimately ended up paying for everyone’s meal and drinks himself.

When they got home, things quickly turned cold. Theo accused Todd of intentionally ruining his plans and lashed out, calling him hurtful names. It was obvious a major fight was brewing.

I have to say, this character was clearly having a rough night. Someone – Todd, I think – gently suggested he lay off the wine, sensing it was only making his bad mood worse, and he readily admitted he wasn’t thrilled. Honestly, he was pretty vocal about being disappointed with his gift, and the fact that he even had to pay for his own dinner just seemed to add insult to injury. It wasn’t a pretty scene, let me tell you.

Someone suggested Theo relax with a coffee, but instead, he started throwing everything – coffee, milk, mugs, and spoons – around the room. Todd jumped on top of him to try and stop him, and Theo then grabbed a knife from the dish rack.

Clutching the tool tightly, Todd pleaded with Theo to end his suffering and follow through with what they were about to do.

Will Todd ever be able to escape Theo?
