Corriedale overnight ratings revealed after crossover skipped early ITVX release

ITV’s much-awaited Corriedale special aired last night, January 5th, and the initial overnight ratings are now available.

The crossover episode of Coronation Street and Emmerdale, which aired on ITV1 at 8pm, was a big success with viewers. An average of 4.2 million people tuned in, with a peak of 4.7 million. The episode wasn’t made available to watch online ahead of its broadcast on ITVX or YouTube.

This was the most-watched soap opera broadcast live in over a year, and it drew the largest audience for any soap opera since 2022, not counting special Christmas Day episodes.

A recent special episode featured a large car crash involving characters from both of ITV’s popular soaps. The episode was full of drama, including the deaths of two characters, a devastating medical diagnosis for a long-running character, and the unexpected return of a familiar face from Emmerdale’s history.

After the upcoming event, both Emmerdale and Coronation Street will have new times on ITV. Each soap will now air five 30-minute episodes every week.

You can watch Emmerdale at 8pm, but Coronation Street fans will need to wait until 8:30pm to see their favourite show.

ITV recently introduced a new soap opera schedule, dubbed the ‘soap power hour,’ which began last night with Coronation Street.

Emmerdale actor Chris Bisson, who plays Jai Sharma, recently explained that fans have been eager to see Emmerdale and Coronation Street cross over. He shared with Leeds Live that this crossover will now happen as part of a new schedule on ITV, calling it a ‘soap power hour’.

He added that people shouldn’t complain about Coronation Street’s schedule changing due to football, or about not knowing when it’s on. He clarified that the show will now air consistently from 8pm to 9pm every day.

I’m a huge Coronation Street fan, and I just found out about the TopMob app! It’s a great way to keep up with all things TV – you can add Corrie to your watchlist and get daily recommendations and features. Definitely downloading it now so I don’t miss an episode!
