Cory Barlog, the seasoned director from Santa Monica Studio who created timeless PlayStation hits such as God of War 2 and the 2018 God of War remake, is currently working diligently on their next major project.
For quite a while now, it’s been clear that the developer is working on a new project, given that Cory Barlog handed over his director responsibilities for God of War Ragnarok to Eric Williams instead.
However, according to an update by Jason Schreier, a reporter from Bloomberg, progress seems to be advancing smoothly on the upcoming project from Santa Monica Studio.
He wrote in response to a fan query:
Cory Barlog’s upcoming game from Sony Santa Monica is highly anticipated. The last conversation I had about it (around a month or two back) suggested things were progressing smoothly.
Since the release of God of War Ragnarok in 2022, it seems that this project has taken center stage at the studio, and given the positive progress hinted at by Shreier, it’s likely we may hear an official announcement about it soon if development is indeed proceeding smoothly.
Regarding its details, they remain a mystery for now. Previously, Barlog hinted at the concept of a science fiction game, but it’s uncertain if this is indeed his current project.
Among titles such as Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, Saros, Marvel’s Wolverine, and an unnamed one, it appears that we are in store for a distinctive and thrilling conclusion to the PlayStation 5 era.
Instead of asking what people would like to see from Santa Monica Studio next, I’d rephrase it as: “Share your ideas or guesses about what Santa Monica Studio might present next. You can do this by commenting below.
