The popular high school romance manga, The Fragrant Flower Blooms With Dignity by Saka Mikami, got an anime adaptation in Summer 2025, about four years after the manga first came out. Even before the anime, the series had a dedicated following, which expanded after CloverWorks created a beautiful animated version. However, it took longer for international fans to watch due to an unforeseen delay with Netflix. The first season finished airing in Japan in September 2025, but a second season hasn’t been announced yet. While many popular shows announce a continuation immediately after airing in Japan, fans have been eagerly waiting for news about a renewal for months.
With over 170 chapters already published, there’s still plenty of story left in the manga. Although a second season of the anime hasn’t been announced yet, the series is popular enough that we can expect more seasons in the future. The manga creator recently stated the story should conclude within a couple of years. This information comes from MangaMoguraRE, a well-known and trustworthy source for anime and manga news. Because the series has been consistently released weekly since it began, the story has moved forward quickly.
The Fragrant Flower Blooms With Dignity Is One of the Most Wholesome Romance Series

The story centers around students from two very different high schools – the elite, all-girls Kikyo Private Academy, and the public Chidori High – which are located right next to each other. There’s a strong rivalry between the schools, felt by both students and teachers. Rintaro Tsumugi, a student at Chidori High, is used to being seen as intimidating and dangerous. He’s surprised, then, when Kaoruko Waguri, a frequent customer at his family’s bakery, starts talking to him. As they begin to connect, Rintaro discovers Kaoruko attends Kikyo Academy, and he worries that their friendship will cause trouble for her.
The season ended with Kaoruko and Rintaro finally admitting their feelings for each other. The next part of the story will focus on them exploring their new relationship and overcoming challenges, particularly those caused by the rivalry between their schools. We’ll also see more of the other characters and learn about their own personal journeys and emotions.
I’ve been following this manga, and as of January 2026, Japan has 21 volumes out. Unfortunately, English readers haven’t gotten all of them yet – only nine volumes are currently available to buy on the official Kodansha website. The good news is that volume 11 is scheduled to be released in English on February 3rd, 2026.
