Creature Commandos Season 2 Gets Production Update From Rick Flagg Sr. Actor, Frank Grillo

Frank Grillo, who plays Rick Flag Sr., recently shared an update on Season 2 of *Creature Commandos*. The popular, mature-themed DCU series was quickly renewed for another season after its first season finished airing late last year, and will again follow the adventures of the gritty Task Force M.

Season 2 will bring back Rick Flag Sr., the experienced ARGUS agent who now leads the secret government organization, taking over from Amanda Waller (as established in *Peacemaker* Season 2). While *Creature Commandos* Season 2 was announced almost a year ago, we haven’t heard much about it until now. Fortunately, actor Frank Grillo is now sharing some updates.

During a discussion with *Phase Hero*, actor Joe Grillo shared an update on the progress of the second season of the animated series. He said, “From what I’ve heard, they’re currently working on developing the story and writing the scripts.” He told host Brandon Davis this is what’s happening with the show behind the scenes.

Phase Hero: “What’s the latest on ‘Creature Commandos’ Season 2?”

Grillo mentioned he’s heard they’re developing stories and writing scripts, something he really enjoyed and thought was a great idea.

This is the first proper production update fans have gotten on the series in several months.

James Gunn, who leads DC Studios, mentioned back in August that the second season of *Creature Commandos* would include even more superheroes than the first. Since then, there haven’t been many updates about the show.

The series *Creature Commandos* centers on Task Force M, a team of monstrous individuals recruited by the government agency ARGUS to carry out secret missions.

The first season of the animated series launched James Gunn’s DC Universe in December 2024, leading into this year’s releases of *Superman* and *Peacemaker*. John Grillo stars alongside Indira Varma, Sean Gunn, Alan Tudyk, and Zoë Chao in the streaming show.

When Will Creature Commandos Season 2 See the Light of Day?

With *Creature Commandos* Season 1 finished, viewers are likely already wondering when the animated series will be back on HBO Max, assuming work on Season 2 is underway.

Unlike Season 1, James Gunn, who leads DC Studios, won’t be the sole writer for Season 2. This should speed up production, as he’ll have other writers assisting him in creating the episodes.

The team began developing the show way back in February, with scripts already in the works. If they finish writing by the end of this year or early next year, it’s likely the show could be released in the first six months of 2027.

It now appears the show will likely come back sometime in late 2027 or possibly 2028. This would give the creators enough time to finish making Season 2, including recording voices, creating animation, and getting it ready for release.

Viewers will have access to many other DCU shows and movies in the meantime, setting the stage for the animated series to come back on the Warner Bros. streaming service.
