Psychological thrillers are popular for good reason – they’re enjoyably creepy and keep you guessing. There’s a satisfying feeling when you solve the mystery before the characters do! The early 2000s were a particularly strong period for this genre, with gems like *The Bone Collector* (released in 1999, but still a standout), *A History of Violence*, and *Glass House* all hitting theaters within that decade.
The psychological thriller *Along Came A Spider*, starring Morgan Freeman and Michael Wincott, is experiencing a surge in popularity on streaming platforms. Based on James Patterson’s *Alex Cross* series, the movie follows detective Alex Cross as he works to save a kidnapped senator’s daughter. Originally released 24 years ago, it’s currently ranked #8 on Netflix’s Global Top 10 Movies list with 2.5 million views.
Why Along Came A Spider Deserves More
While the story might seem familiar, this movie consistently delivers entertainment. It’s built on a straightforward but effective idea, and Morgan Freeman gives a stellar performance. The plot does get a little complicated at times with a few extra twists and some loose ends, but it’s easy to forgive those minor flaws because the core of the film is so strong-particularly for those who enjoy the *Alex Cross* books. It’s hard not to love a movie that begins with a failed operation and features a detective still haunted by the loss of his partner a year later. The acting is excellent, the connections between the characters feel genuine, and the action sequences are brilliantly done – all elements of a truly compelling thriller. The fast pace keeps you hooked from beginning to end.
While not flawless, *Along Came a Spider* is an enjoyable movie with compelling characters and a twisty plot, based on the original story. It didn’t get much attention when it was first released, but it’s gaining a well-deserved following and could become a beloved thriller for fans of the genre.
You Can’t Watch Along Came A Spider On Netflix (But Here’s Where You Can)
I was hoping to watch it on Netflix, but unfortunately it’s not available to stream here in the US right now. Luckily, I discovered I *can* watch *Along Came A Spider* on Paramount+! If you don’t have that, you can always rent it through Amazon Prime or Apple TV.
