A crime show that was cancelled last year is now a big success on Netflix, suggesting fans were right to want more. One of the great things about streaming services like Netflix is their ability to revive shows that were cancelled by traditional TV networks before their time. We saw this happen with Suits, which became popular enough on Netflix to get a spin-off. Now, another show – a crime drama – is proving popular, quickly becoming one of Netflix’s most-watched programs.
The NBC drama Found has remained popular on Netflix all week, reaching number three on January 5th and currently holding at number seven as of January 10th, according to FlixPatrol. The show, which originally aired in 2023, centers on Gabi Mosely, a public relations expert who leads a team dedicated to finding missing persons cases that have been overlooked by authorities and the media. Shanola Hampton, known for her role as Veronica Fisher in Shameless, plays Gabi.
The premise of this show is similar to many police dramas, especially the long-running series Cold Case, which focused on solving old, forgotten crimes. However, Found offered a slightly more hopeful twist, centering on finding and rescuing missing people still alive, rather than investigating past murders. Despite this, Found was cancelled by NBC after only two seasons, unlike Cold Case‘s seven-season run.
The show’s appeal wasn’t simply about Gabi finding missing people. It was about her background: a former kidnapping victim now dedicated to helping others in similar situations. What’s truly unique is that Gabi has turned the tables – she kidnapped the person who abducted her years ago, and he’s now her captive. She keeps him locked up and forces him to use his knowledge to help her solve other missing persons cases.
Could Found Find New Life Thanks to Netflix?

The acting in Found was strong, with Shanola Hampton leading the cast. Brett Dalton, known from Agents of SHIELD, played the police contact for her character, Gabi, and Mark-Paul Gosselaar (famous for Saved by the Bell) portrayed Sir Evans, the man who originally kidnapped her. The show’s second season upped the stakes when Sir escaped and was found again, and introduced his sister, Lena, who sought revenge on Gabi. The season ended with a major cliffhanger: Gabi publicly admitted to initially finding and kidnapping Sir – a confession that freed her from a secret but put her in serious danger.
The TV show Found started strong, attracting 10.5 million viewers for its premiere and becoming NBC’s most-watched series to also debut on Peacock. However, viewership dropped to an average of 4.99 million adults aged 18-49 by the end of the first season. While the second season saw an increase to an average of 6.2 million viewers, it wasn’t enough to prevent the show from being canceled.
The series received positive reviews for its performances and engaging, ongoing storyline, earning a 70% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. It was also recognized with nominations for several awards, including the GLAAD Media Awards, NAACP Image Awards, Critics’ Choice Television Awards, and Saturn Awards. Despite this, NBC cancelled the show in May 2025 before the final episode of the second season could air, but allowed the creators to try and find a new home for it. Unfortunately, those efforts didn’t attract enough interest until the series found a large audience on Netflix. Now, with strong support from fans, there’s hope that Netflix might pick up the show and allow the story of Gabi to conclude.
