We’re really excited that Crimson Desert is almost here! We were disappointed when the game was delayed from its original 2025 release date, but we’re hopeful the extra time will allow the developers to polish what already looked like a fantastic game.
It definitely seems that way, as the game developers have been showing off gameplay and details about their ambitious new title. After previous presentations highlighted combat, exploration, and new characters, they’re now giving us a look at the game’s world: the land of Pywell.
The quality of an open-world game depends on what you can actually do in it, and Crimson Desert is no different. Luckily, the game appears to be packed with engaging activities, and there might even be some hidden surprises as you play as Klyff. Let’s take a look at everything you’ll be able to do in the game as Klyff.
1. Theme-Based Puzzles

Pywell is divided into five different zones, each with a unique style. We’re especially excited about the technology-focused area and plan to visit it first. We’re particularly interested in seeing the mech that was previously shown off.
What’s really interesting is that the game features puzzles and challenges specifically tailored to each area, forcing you to solve them using the local logic and skills. This is a major step forward for truly immersive gaming, and it could be a great way to keep you engaged and prevent the burnout that sometimes happens in large open-world games.
2. Discover Daily Life in Pywell

Okay, so fighting is a big part of Pywell, but honestly, there’s way more to it than just battles. The Greymanes are just one piece of the puzzle. I’m really excited about exploring all the towns, villages, and cities – it seems like getting to know them is actually super important to progressing in the game. It feels like they’re not just scenery, you know?
Klyff has opportunities to help the people of Pywell by eliminating bandit camps, rescuing those in need, completing deliveries, and finding missing people. We’re excited to take on the role of hero, even for small tasks.
3. Keep Your Ear To The Ground
As you visit towns and villages on your adventure, pay attention to what people are saying. Rumors can lead you to exciting new places and help Klyff find better equipment to face the dangers of Pywell and defeat his enemies, the Black Bears.
We’re excited to see how this new game feature plays out. We think it will give players plenty of reasons to spend time exploring the world of Pywell, even beyond the main storyline.
4. There’s A Fight Club (Sort Of)

Something cool we saw at the showcase was Klyff getting into a fistfight with a local – they both dropped their weapons and just went at it! It seems like there’s an unofficial fighting scene developing, which is great because it’s a fun way for people to demonstrate their fighting abilities.
Although it’s not officially discussed, evidence suggests that Crimson Desert features a battle club-like system.
5. Hidden Settlements With Unique Stories

Beyond the typical towns and villages, the developers are particularly proud of the special locations players can discover while exploring the large world of Pywell. These places offer interesting stories that help build the world’s history and traditions, and provide a glimpse into the thoughts and feelings of its people.
It’s great to have more to discover in this expansive game world, and we’re happy that Klyff’s battle with the Black Bears isn’t the only exciting event to experience.
6. Blacksmiths and Tailors

A true role-playing game lets you customize your heroes with different weapons and equipment, right? Luckily, you’ll find blacksmiths and tailors in the settlements you discover, offering weapons and armor. We plan for each of these shops to have a unique selection of gear that reflects the local area.
It’s tough to choose just one favorite, but like most players, you’ll probably change your gear depending on what you’re about to encounter.
7. The Laws Of The Land Apply To You

If you decide to engage in unlawful activities with Klyff, be cautious around guards in towns and cities. Breaking the law will likely lead to a pursuit, and you could even be arrested depending on the severity of your actions.
The guards will likely be difficult opponents, so getting into trouble with them could be risky, especially if you’re playing Klyff as someone who doesn’t care much for the rules. It seems like behaving like a good citizen will be much safer for him in the long run.
8. Many Ways To Get What You Need

Let me tell you, getting the good stuff in Pywell isn’t easy on the wallet! You really need to keep a good supply of resources handy as you explore. Luckily, there are tons of ways to get them – I’ve been hunting, fishing, and even mining to stock up on materials. It’s super important for upgrading my gear and trading with other players, so I always make sure I’m prepared.
Collecting resources can be a fun and relaxing way to spend time in the game. Keeping track of what you have makes sure you’re always prepared when you find a weapon or item you like.
9. Mixing and Matching

The game features a crafting system, and you’ll use alchemy to create items. Klyff will discover recipes for helpful tools and supplies, allowing you to make them as needed, even when you’re far from towns in Pywell, despite its excellent movement options.
Learning as many alchemy recipes as possible is a good investment, letting you create useful items whenever you have the necessary materials. Plus, you can craft dyes to customize your armor and give your characters a distinct appearance – we’ll cover that in more detail shortly!
10. Slay In Style

Beyond customizing your equipment with dyes, you can also personalize your character’s appearance by changing their hairstyle, hair color, and adding unique designs, making each one feel truly your own.
I really appreciate the little details they’ve added, and I was excited to see a peek at how much you can customize your character! It looks like there are tons of options. My only slight disappointment is that you can’t fully adjust the facial features themselves – they’re pre-set, which is a bit of a bummer, but still, the customization overall looks really deep.
11. Shop For Resources You Need
If you dislike having to search for supplies, you’ll be glad to hear that every town in Pywell has plenty of merchants ready to sell you what you need.
Spending in-game money on items means you might not have enough left for other things you want later. However, buying from vendors when you see something you need can save you time you’d otherwise spend gathering resources, freeing you up to enjoy more of the game’s other features.
12. The Greymane Base

After losing to the Black Bears, Klyff and the remaining Greymanes established a new base on unclaimed land. It starts small, but you can expand and upgrade it to create a secure haven for your allies as you work to rebuild your faction and ultimately challenge the Black Bears.
Every adventurer needs a home base, and we’re happy Klyff has a place to relax and spend time with his friends.
13. Rebuilding The Greymanes One Member At A Time
So, about those Greymanes you meet fighting the Black Bears? They’re not just a one-time thing! You’ll keep running into them as the story goes on, and I’ve got a feeling we might even have to save a few of them from getting captured at some point, though the devs haven’t officially said that yet.
Plus, these new recruits will be essential as you work to completely rebuild your faction throughout the story, and that brings us to our next exciting feature.
14. Dispatch Greymanes on Operations
Your followers will rely on you for guidance, and you can send them on missions to scout and weaken heavily guarded locations, making those areas safer and easier for you to explore later.
We love seeing this feature in games and are excited to see it developed further as Crimson Desert gets closer to release.
15. Cultivate Resources

If you prefer not to gather resources by exploring the open world, or if you’re hesitant to spend your money, Greymane Base offers a solution. As you develop the base into a thriving settlement in Pywell, you’ll naturally collect the resources you need along the way.
It seems Klyff is talented at more than just warfare, and it’s great to see our characters have relaxing hobbies to help them de-stress after fighting.
So, that covers pretty much everything about Pywell and what you can do in it within Crimson Desert! Honestly, as a fan, I think this world is going to be absolutely massive – the kind you can easily lose yourself in for hours and not want to come back from. And that’s exactly what I want in an action RPG!
