Crimson Desert Gets New Base PS5 Gameplay Footage Showcasing Dragon Riding, Boss Fights

Sony and Pearl Abyss have released the second part of a video series highlighting gameplay of Crimson Desert on the standard PlayStation 5. This new video, featuring product manager Kim Min-young and host Taiga Kishi, focuses on the game’s side quests and the ability to ride dragons in its open world.

The video begins by demonstrating dragon riding, letting players soar through the game world with incredible freedom. Dragons aren’t just for travel, though – they can also fight using their fiery breath. After exploring the skies, the players test the dragon’s combat skills by attacking an enemy base. Keep in mind that you won’t be safe from attack while flying, as enemies can shoot back with defenses against aerial targets.

We then see more of the game’s open world, with the player running into a quarry full of enemies. A new enemy is introduced, and it looks like a boss fight due to the large health bar displayed. This boss wields drills on both hands, using them for powerful attacks and to quickly move around the battlefield.

Okay, I’m seriously excited because we finally got a look at a side-quest happening in this beautiful snowy area! It all builds up to a boss fight against this huge, super-fast enemy. Honestly, the fight is intense – this boss just keeps coming at you with a mix of quick sword attacks and shield bashes that are really hard to predict. It took me a few tries, but finally taking down that boss felt amazing, and the rewards were totally worth it – seriously epic stuff!

The newest gameplay video for Crimson Desert is shorter than the previous one, clocking in at 11 minutes compared to the original 20-minute video. The earlier video showed off the game’s open-world exploration and combat, and included a brief look at a magical puzzle used to enter a wizard’s tower. It also revealed that players will be able to explore two different regions: the main continent of Pywel and the enigmatic Abyss.

The PS5 gameplay shown so far has been great, but the more powerful PS5 Pro offers even more. According to John Linneman at Digital Foundry, the PS5 Pro can consistently aim for 60 frames per second in Performance mode, which uses visuals rendered at 1080p and then upscaled to 4K, alongside impressive ray tracing. Players can also choose a Quality mode for native 4K resolution and even better ray tracing, capped at 30 frames per second. A Balanced mode is also available, targeting 40 FPS with 1440p visuals upscaled to 4K and high-quality ray tracing.

Crimson Desert is coming to PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S on March 19th.
