With Crimson Desert now selling over four million copies and rapidly approaching five million – as Pearl Abyss recently announced – its journey to success has been noteworthy. While early reviews caused the company’s stock price to initially drop, sales quickly led to a rebound and surge.
Even before its official launch, the game had already brought in over $20 million from pre-orders, according to Alinea Analytics. Now, the firm estimates total revenue has exceeded $200 million across all platforms, with the PlayStation 5 version accounting for approximately $75 million of that total.
The game also seems to attract players who enjoy similar open-world adventures, like Dragon’s Dogma 2. About 38% of Crimson Desert players on PlayStation 5 have also played that action RPG, even though its story wasn’t highly praised. Players also seem to have experience with games like Assassin’s Creed Shadows and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, which could indicate shared interests among its audience.
The game runs smoothly on PlayStation 5 (and the upcoming PS5 Pro) – see our review for a deeper look. Crimson Desert is also playable on PC and Xbox Series X/S. We were particularly impressed with how well the PC version was optimized and how visually appealing it was, as you can read in our review here.
