The studio announced that Crimson Desert has sold 4 million copies globally. They expressed gratitude to the players, known as Greymanes, for their support and for joining them on this adventure.
Last week, Pearl Abyss CEO Heo Jin-young announced that Crimson Desert is nearly at 5 million copies sold and that they plan to share the official news as soon as it happens. He also stated the company is focused on achieving this milestone and delivering strong results by the end of the year, both for investors and their team.
Jin-young also mentioned that Pearl Abyss is exploring the possibility of bringing Crimson Desert to the next Nintendo Switch. They acknowledge this could be difficult, as the Switch isn’t as powerful as other consoles and some features might need to be removed. Despite this, they’ve started researching how to make it work.
Since launching last month, Pearl Abyss has been consistently updating Crimson Desert to fix issues and address concerns raised by players.
A recent update addressed player feedback about limited mount options by adding five new permanent mounts to the game. This update also included improvements like lower stamina costs when flying. The new mounts feature three legendary creatures – the White Bear, Silver Fang, and Snowwhite Deer – plus two mounts earned from defeating bosses: the Rock Tusk Warthog and the Icicle Edge Alpine Ibex.
A recent update to the game added a personal storage chest, helping players organize their items. The update also made it easier to get around the world of Pywel by adding more fast travel locations.
The recent updates have been well-received by players, and the latest one helped Crimson Desert reach a new peak of over 270,000 concurrent players on Steam this weekend.
Despite its potential, Crimson Desert has some fundamental issues that won’t be solved with a simple patch. The story is a key problem, and the game’s creator, Jin-young, has admitted it’s not as strong as it should be. He explained in a recent Q&A that the main storyline felt underdeveloped and accepted responsibility for not addressing it during the game’s creation.
The team is as disappointed as players are about the story’s weaknesses. They acknowledge their own limitations prevented them from fixing it. Instead, they chose to concentrate on improving the gameplay, which is a strong suit, and plan to build on that in their next game.
Crimson Desert is available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. Check out our review for more.
