
Although Crimson Desert‘s impressive boss battles and skillful combat might suggest it’s a challenging “Soulslike” game, Pearl Abyss America’s marketing director, Will Powers, recently clarified that isn’t the case. In an interview on the Dropped Frames podcast, Powers explained the game focuses more on executing combos than presenting a notoriously difficult experience.
You have plenty of options if you’re struggling – you can walk away, try something different, improve your gear, take on side missions, or find ways to make the battle more manageable. But don’t mistake that for the game being easy – it’s still a real challenge!
Powers explained that players can either gather resources to create items that revive them during fights, or complete quests to gain experience and return to challenging bosses as stronger characters. While this might seem similar to repeatedly leveling up in games like Dark Souls, it’s good to know the game is finding a balance between difficulty and its open world, letting players tackle tough challenges when they feel ready.
Without any in-game purchases, Crimson Desert looks set to be a fantastic game when it releases in 2026. That’s high praise, especially with highly anticipated titles like the new Wolverine game and Grand Theft Auto 6 coming out later this year.
