Despite mixed reviews, Crimson Desert has proven incredibly popular, with players investing significant time and money into the game. Dinga Bakaba, studio director at Arkane Lyon, suggests this success is because Crimson Desert does things differently than most other open-world games.

According to one observer, a key to the success of Crimson Desert is that it quickly familiarizes players with its unique gameplay elements. This includes how the game is controlled, its core mechanics, and even influences from other games. The immersive open-world experience doesn’t truly begin until players have played for a few hours, after they’ve become comfortable with these systems.
