If you’re keeping an eye on independent gaming scene, chances are you’ve run across UFO 50 – a collection of 50 unique games, created by the team behind Spelunky, Downwell, and other notable titles.
Well, it seems the game is coming to PS5 — just not yet.
Today, the much-admired compilation officially releases on the 7th of August, 2025, for the Nintendo Switch. However, hidden within the announcement details is the fact that it will initially be an exclusivity period for this particular console.
Here’s the pertinent quote from the press release:
Today, a remarkable assortment of 50 unique games, hailing from Mossmouth and spanning diverse genres such as platformers, shoot ’em ups, puzzles, roguelites, and more, will debut exclusively on Nintendo Switch for a limited period. These games are collectively known as UFO 50.
The term “timed platform exclusive” suggests that UFO 50 will initially be available only on certain consoles, but it’s expected to become accessible on other platforms later.
The game was initially released for PC back in September of the previous year, and it garnered exceptionally positive reviews.
Within this collection, you’ll find 50 games, each crafted for a fictional game console. As you progress through some of these games, new ones will gradually become available, giving you a glimpse into the evolutionary journey or “story” of the company that created the device.
Instead of being just small games, they are actually fully developed, nostalgia-inspired games that cover various game styles and genres.
As a dedicated gamer, I’m excited to share that UFO 50, although not releasing on PS5 today, seems like it’s on its way eventually. Unfortunately, there’s no specific timeline available yet. So, for now, we find ourselves in a waiting game – fingers crossed for more updates soon!
