Argonaut Games has officially announced the details of Croc: Legend of the Gobbos – Platinum Edition (updated October 13th, 2025, 4:30 PM).
If you already own the remastered version of the game on PlayStation 5 or PlayStation 4, you can download the Platinum Edition for free – it’s not a separate purchase.
The developer is explaining the reasons behind releasing a new version of the game, particularly for PlayStation consoles.
When we first released the remastered version of *Croc: Legend of the Gobbos*, it didn’t have enough trophies to earn a Platinum trophy on PlayStation. Because we can’t add trophies through a simple update, we decided to release a new version of the game. This new version includes 16 new trophies, and now allows players to unlock the Platinum trophy.
And here’s a breakdown of what’s actually included in the new edition:
- A new time trial gameplay mode called Time Attack
- Over 25 new additions to the Crocipedia.
- The ability to toggle between different Croc Main Theme mixes in the main menu.
- A bunch of bug fixes were squashed. Ker-Splat!
- A handful of quality-of-life features and improvements.
Platinum Edition is out this week, on the 16th October. We’re glad that’s squared away!
Argonaut Games, the team behind the original Croc game, recently announced ‘Croc: Legend of the Gobbos – Platinum Edition’ for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4. However, the announcement has caused some confusion.
The remastered version of the classic PlayStation 1 game, Croc: Legend of the Gobbos, came out earlier this year. While fans who remember the original loved it, some were disappointed that it didn’t have a Platinum Trophy on PlayStation.
Addressing recent feedback, the newly released Platinum Edition includes a Platinum Trophy and 15 more trophies to earn. It also adds time trials and expands the ‘Crocipedia’ feature, offering a behind-the-scenes look at how the original game was made.
It’s currently unclear if this is a brand new release of the game or just an update to the version people already have.
Releasing another version so soon doesn’t make much sense, especially since the updated version came out just half a year ago. It would be even stranger if Argonaut Games didn’t offer existing players a free way to get the new version.
You might think this is a new installment, but the trailer, its description, and the studio’s social media haven’t said anything about that possibility.
We’ve contacted Argonaut Games to learn more and will update this article if they respond.
Thinking about getting Croc just to earn the Platinum Trophy? Would you replay the game for that achievement? Let us know in the comments!
