Prior to the launch of “Silent Hill 2 Remake“, a fair share of skepticism surrounded Bloober Team, as fans questioned if the team could successfully remake a game often hailed as one of the greatest horror games ever made. However, in an interview with PC Gamer, Jacek Zięba – the director of “Cronos: The New Dawn” – shared that the studio’s confidence grew following the release of “Silent Hill 2 Remake”.
After Silent Hill, we no longer feel like perpetual underdogs, he expressed. The Silent Hill phase wasn’t a walk in the park for public perception. Critics said things like, ‘Oh dear, Bloober is taking this on. They will ruin it.’ It was quite challenging for our entire team to stay committed and pour all our passion into that project despite the skepticism. We managed to turn those doubts around, which feels great.
Discussions about whether Bloober Team was capable of delivering a satisfactory remake of Silent Hill 2 arose primarily due to their previous horror titles, such as The Medium, Blair Witch, and the Layers of Fear series, being perceived as less than impressive. However, with the impending release of Cronos: The New Dawn, Zięba feels that Bloober Team is entering a new phase in its development.
Zięba stated, ‘We find ourselves in a unique point in time.’ He believes we’re experiencing a surge of curiosity, and it’s crucial that we meet these expectations. We understand the importance of delivering quality work. We pour our hearts into every game we create, striving to make each one exceptional.
During the interview for “Cronos: The New Dawn”, its lead writer, Grzegorz Like, discussed that Bloober Team aims to consistently enhance their work with each new game they create. This commitment to improvement is not just because of the success they experienced following the critically praised remake of “Silent Hill 2”.
Each time a game is released, there’s learning and growth, an evolution towards improvement. We strive to get better, and I assure you, that desire hasn’t changed post-Silent Hill. When people said it was perfect, it wasn’t. That’s the mindset we maintain.
Perhaps it is,” responded Zięba. “In the same way, we often compare Silent Hill and Cronos to two unique pizzas, each with its own toppings. Though we might have crafted a flawless one, maybe now we can present you with another variation instead.
As a gamer, I’m excitedly anticipating the release of “Cronos: The New Dawn,” which is currently in development for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S, set to drop this Fall. Just recently, Bloober Team unveiled a gameplay video, offering us a chilling glimpse into an abandoned hospital and demonstrating how the gravity manipulation feature will function within the horror title.
In the video I watched, I got to experience an exhilarating 10-minute journey through Section A-0, where I, as the player, indulged in mind-boggling platforming that defied gravity. As I ventured through the hospital setting, I encountered and interacted with some intriguing orphans along the way.
The studio earlier verified that Skybound Game Studios, through a partnership, will facilitate a physical version release of the game “Cronos: The New Dawn” on PS5.
