Crunchyroll Drops Kaiju No. 8 Special Episode Ahead of Season 2

Fans of Kaiju No. 8 have less than a week to go before the official release of Season 2 on Crunchyroll, but as a prelude, they’ve been given an exciting bonus to savor before diving into the much-anticipated second season. The anime adaptation of Kaiju No. 8, produced by Production I.G., made its debut in 2024 and was one of the most popular shows last year. This year, fans have already received a special treat – the Season 1 compilation movie titled Kaiju No. 8: Mission Recon. Along with this film, a new Original Video Animation (OVA) was released, initially shown only in theaters. Now, just before the premiere of Season 2, every Crunchyroll member who’s a fan of Kaiju No. 8 can finally watch the newly released OVA.

The anime titled “Kaiju No. 8” is inspired by the comic book series of the same name written by Naoya Matsumoto. This manga started publication on Shueisha’s online platform, Shonen Jump+, in July 2020 and will conclude with its upcoming two chapters after a five-year run. Following the thrilling climax of Season 1 where Kafka Hibino unveiled his kaiju abilities to the Defense Force, Season 2 will delve deeper into the core plotline, however, before that, some members of the Defense Force will embark on a well-deserved break.

Kaiju No. 8‘s New OVA Is Now Streaming on Crunchyroll

As a die-hard Kaiju No. 8 enthusiast, I can’t wait to dive back into our favorite world starting July 19th! Before that, there’s a treat in store for us: “Hoshina’s Day Off,” an exclusive OVA available on Crunchyroll! This special episode was previously released alongside Mission Recon in theaters, but now, it’s finally accessible to a wider audience. I can hardly contain my excitement!

The initial narrative focuses on Hoshina, Deputy Commander of the Third Kaiju Defense Force, who decides to relax on a leisure day. Meanwhile, Reno Ichikawa happens to be off duty too. As he notices that diligent Hoshina might be hiding something, he follows the Deputy Captain to uncover the mystery behind his activities.

In a series known for its massive kaiju battles, “Hoshina’s Day Off” serves as a laugh-out-loud break, not only for the characters in the OVA but also for viewers. If the second season sticks to the manga, it promises more action. Therefore, fans might appreciate the peaceful pause of the new OVA before the action heats up again.

Kaiju No. 8 Season 2 Is Nearly Here

The end of the wait is nearly here! On July 19th, Season 2 of “Kaiju No. 8” will begin streaming on Crunchyroll. Once again, Production I.G. will be responsible for animation, having delivered an exceptional performance in bringing the kaiju action to life during the first season.

It’s not yet known exactly how many episodes Season 2 will have, but it’s likely to consist of 12, similar to Season 1. Some fans may have wanted a full 24-episode season. Starting from the 19th, new episodes will be available every Saturday.
