Later this year, Crunchyroll is set to expand significantly into movie theaters with an innovative “Anime Nights” program. This initiative includes unique theatrical showings scheduled monthly. Over the past few years, anime’s popularity has grown significantly during the pandemic era, with more licensed and distributed anime titles appearing across various platforms. Furthermore, feature films have been consistently released in North American theaters. Previously, anime screenings were limited to a handful of days, but now, anime movie releases are becoming regular events in cinemas over the last couple of years.
Crunchyroll is aiming to expand their offerings, as they announced Crunchyroll Anime Nights during the San Diego Comic-Con 2025 weekend. This event is touted as a way to pay tribute to anime’s history, enhance its current state, and celebrate its future with exclusive screenings taking place on the third Monday of each month at U.S. theaters. The first of these significant events will occur later in October, featuring the U.S. premiere of “Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid: A lonely dragon seeks love“. Further details for November and December have also been unveiled.

Starting in October and featuring over 225 participating cinemas nationwide, such as Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, AMC Theatres, Regal, Cinemark Theatres, Harkins Theatres, and Landmark Cinemas, Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Entertainment plan to showcase their extensive anime collection through select screenings of past, present, and future hits. The initial film in this series is the premiere of “Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid: A Lonely Dragon Wants to Be Loved,” which will debut on October 20th.
1. “OVERLORD – A Celebration of the Anime’s 10th Anniversary” will be in theaters on November 17th.
2. “Crunchyroll Anime Nights: Secret Sneak Peek!” is scheduled for December 15th, offering a glimpse at some forthcoming anime releases before they begin streaming on Crunchyroll.
3. The first three events mark the start of this exciting new venture, hinting at major releases and enjoyable screenings to come throughout the rest of the year, with more likely in store for 2026, including potential movies and new anime premieres.
Mitchel Berger, Executive Vice President of Commerce at Crunchyroll, stated in a press release that Anime Nights goes beyond just screenings; it’s a shared event that respects and celebrates the art form, opens the door for fans to interact with creators, and presents anime in an immersive, cinematic environment. According to Berger, Crunchyroll values the theatrical experience, and there’s a strong bond formed when watching treasured anime alongside friends and other enthusiasts in a theater. This monthly event offers a special chance for fans to engage with the anime community and pay tribute to the stories they adore.
It’s an exciting period for anime enthusiasts as numerous new anime movies are set to hit theaters from Fall onwards, along with regular screenings. Keeping up with these releases promises an enjoyable experience!
