Crunchyroll’s Best New Anime Hit By Last Minute Delay

The highly anticipated third season of Jujutsu Kaisen recently caused Crunchyroll’s servers to temporarily fail due to high demand. However, a less-expected anime series quickly became a top-rated new show on the platform. Despite a positive reception to the first episode from fans, Studio Kai has announced a delay for the second episode, meaning viewers will have to wait longer to continue the story and see their favorite hero return.

The anime Sentenced to be a Hero debuted on Crunchyroll earlier this month and quickly became more popular than the platform anticipated. Currently, it has a fan score of 9.4 out of 10 on IMDB. However, there’s some disappointing news for fans: the release of the second episode has been delayed. Originally scheduled for January 10th, the episode will now premiere on January 17th. The reason for the delay hasn’t been announced yet.

What Makes This Hero Stand Out?

I recently watched Sentenced to be a Hero, and it’s a really interesting take on the fantasy genre. It doesn’t fall into the typical ‘transported to another world’ or ‘video game mechanics’ tropes. Instead, it gives its main character, Xylo Forbartz, a unique and surprising reason to fight against evil – he’s been made immortal as punishment and now has to battle darkness forever. Beyond the beautiful animation and engaging story, what really stood out to me was how well-developed all the characters are, especially considering the difficult situation they’re all in.

Good news for fans hoping this story continues! The series is based on a novel that started in 2020, and both a light novel and manga adaptation have been created. Thankfully, new chapters of all versions – including the original novel, light novel, and manga – are still being released, meaning we can expect to follow Xylo’s adventures for a while yet.

Crunchyroll often has popular shows that everyone expects to be hits, but they also surprise us with unexpected favorites. While there was already a lot of excitement for Solo Leveling, few predicted its first episode would overwhelm Crunchyroll’s servers. As the service adds more new anime, it’s likely we’ll continue to see this happen – shows becoming bigger hits than anticipated.
