MAPPA is poised for a huge 2026, and their recent announcements demonstrate how they’re becoming a dominant force in the anime industry. This week marks the return of Jujutsu Kaisen with its highly anticipated third season. But that’s not all – MAPPA is also bringing back another popular series that hasn’t been seen in years. To build excitement, they’ve just released a sneak peek at a key location from the upcoming season, which will launch the new year.
The anime series Hell’s Paradise: Jigokuraku returns January 11th with a new season. The story follows Gabimaru as he fights to survive on a mysterious, cursed island that may hold the secret to eternal life. It’s been almost three years since the first season premiered on Crunchyroll in 2023, and fans are excited for the continuation of this dark and action-packed story. Recent trailers showcase the intense battles ahead and reveal the new ending theme song, ‘Personal’ by Queen Bee. You can watch the latest trailer below.
The Wild Origin of Hell’s Paradise

Originally debuting in 2018 as a thrilling action series, Hell’s Paradise ran for thirteen volumes before concluding in 2021. This suggests the anime adaptation will likely finish with either the current second season or potentially one more season, wrapping up the story of Gabimaru. Interestingly, the initial concept for Hell’s Paradise was quite different from the intense, action-packed series fans now enjoy.
Yuji Kaku has revealed that the initial idea for Hell’s Paradise wasn’t about a mysterious island. It was originally planned as a story set in a youth detention center, following the lives of the inmates and the lawyers trying to help them. However, the story evolved significantly before becoming the manga we know today. After the first season of the anime ended with Gabimaru uncovering many secrets about the island, fans are eagerly awaiting the show’s return.
Besides Jigokuraku, MAPPA, the animation studio behind many popular series, has a lot in the works. They’re bringing back Dorohedoro, the incredibly unique anime that hasn’t been seen in six years. A new season is expected this spring, and its story of a character with a lizard head could be one of the most unusual revivals of the year. MAPPA also plans to continue the Chainsaw Man story with Chainsaw Man: The Assassins Arc, building on the popularity of the recent Chainsaw Man movie.
