Crypto ETPs start 2025 with $585M inflows — CoinShares

2025 has seen promising beginnings for cryptocurrency investment products, as global crypto exchange-traded products (ETPs) recorded a total inflow of approximately $585 million within the initial three days of the year.

2024’s final two trading days were marked by significant selling, resulting in a total outflow of $75 million for crypto ETPs over the entire previous trading week, as reported by crypto investment firm CoinShares on January 6. This heavy selling overshadowed the inflows at the start of the period.

2024 ended up shattering records for crypto ETFs, boasting an impressive $44.2 billion in investments – a remarkable 320% surge from the $10.5 billion high achieved in 2021.

As a financial analyst, I’m sharing an insight from our latest report: The launch of the U.S.-based spot Bitcoin ETF in January 2024 played a significant role in driving inflows, according to CoinShares’ Head of Research, James Butterfill.

Bitcoin dominated ETF inflows at 29%

2024 saw a significant dominance of Bitcoin Exchange-Traded Products (ETPs), as they attracted an impressive $38 billion in investments, making up approximately 29% of the total Bitcoin assets under management (AUM) which stood at around $130 billion.

2024 witnessed a revival in the issuance of Ethereum (ETH)-backed Exchange Traded Products (ETPs), resulting in $4.8 billion in total inflows for the year, which accounted for approximately 26% of the total $18.6 billion in Ethereum assets under management (AUM).

In the year 2024, the total assets under management for all cryptocurrency exchange-traded products added up to approximately $160.6 billion. This figure included investments of $438 million in XRP (XRP) related products and $257 million in multi-asset ETPs, as reported by CoinShares.

Canada was the largest crypto ETP seller in 2024

In contrast to being the leading nation in buying Crypto Exchange-Traded Products (ETPs), with an inflow of approximately $44.5 billion from the United States, it’s Canada that has become the top seller of these products in 2024.

2024 data from CoinShares shows that Canadian cryptocurrency exchange-traded products (ETPs) experienced a total withdrawal of approximately 707 million US dollars. Similarly, countries like Sweden and Germany recorded outflows of around 682 million USD and 328 million USD from their crypto ETPs last year, respectively.

Flows out of Cryptocurrency ETFs in Canada, Sweden, and Germany surpassed the investments made in countries such as Switzerland ($630 million) and Brazil ($234 million), where there were inflows instead.
