The National Securities Commission (CNV) has signed off on a virtual asset service provider (VASP) registration for Coinbase, allowing it to offer local payment methods in the Argentine peso. As they say, “When in Rome, do as the Romans do,” and Coinbase is doing just that!

A Coinbase spokesperson told CryptoMoon, “We were never working illegally, but now, with the license, we’ll be able to offer more products in pesos.” Ah, the sweet taste of legality!

And, as if that wasn’t enough, Coinbase also has plans for local educational initiatives to help foster crypto literacy. Fabio Plein, director for the Americas at Coinbase, said, “For many Argentinians, crypto isn’t just an investment; it’s a necessity for regaining control over their financial futures.” Well, who wouldn’t want to be in control of their own financial destiny?

But, let’s not forget, Argentina has one of the highest rates of poverty in the world, with 53% of the country living in poverty. So, is crypto really the answer to all their problems? Only time will tell!
