Crypto Market: The Rollercoaster of Disappointment!

What to know:

By Omkar Godbole (All times ET unless indicated otherwise)

So, the crypto market starts the week off like a kid on Christmas morning, all bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, but wait! What’s this? A reality check! Gains? Nah, they’re like that last slice of pizza nobody wants. Ether (ETH) and solana (SOL) have risen over 3% since midnight UTC, while BTC is up nearly 2%. XRP? Oh, poor XRP, lagging behind at 1.5%, like the kid who forgot to do his homework.

The demand side? Weak as a cup of decaf coffee. U.S.-listed spot bitcoin ETFs just had a net outflow of $296.18 million. That’s right, folks, snapping a four-week streak of inflows. Ether ETFs bled over $200 million. These funds are like a window into how institutional investors feel about cryptocurrency-right now, it’s like a bad date.

Then there are stablecoins, which are supposed to be the reliable friends in this chaotic party. But even they are throwing red flags. Tether’s USDT, the biggest dollar-pegged stablecoin, has stalled at around $184 billion. And Circle Internet’s (CRCL) USDC? Down nearly 1.5%, like it just got dumped.

Markus Thielen, founder of 10x Research, reported a $-1.1 billion decrease in Stablecoins last week. Is that a sign? Yes! A negative one! It’s like when you’re at a buffet and see a sign that says “out of shrimp.”

Meanwhile, veteran chart analyst Peter Brandt is predicting that bitcoin could fall to $49,000. Traders are all about those put options-lingering downside fears, folks. It’s like watching a horror movie where you know the killer is lurking behind the door, but you just can’t look away.

But hey, a sudden shift in sentiment could happen! Maybe a U.S.-led ceasefire in the Iran conflict sparks a rally. Or maybe pigs will fly. But for BTC to signal a full bullish reversal, it needs to establish a foothold above $75,000. Good luck with that!
