Crypto Rules: Peirce’s Plan to ‘Bake’ Them In!

Now, wouldn’t you know it, Hester Peirce, one of them highfalutin’ members of the SEC, thinks she’s got a notion or two on how to make them crypto rules stick around longer than a hiccup at a Sunday sermon. She’s aiming to fix things up, so the crypto world don’t get turned upside down every time a new fella takes the reins in Washington. 🤠

At the DC Blockchain Summit, Miss Peirce, who’s the head honcho of the SEC’s crypto task force, reckoned they could put a bit more backbone into digital asset regulations. She’s talking about making rules right there at the agency and getting some laws passed through Congress, instead of just handing out guidance like it was candy on Halloween. And she’s not too keen on folks getting all tangled up in the Howey test, neither. “I hope folks ain’t gonna be wrangling with the Howey test like it’s a stubborn mule,” she says. “Your lawyers gotta ponder on it, sure, but it shouldn’t be the thing that’s holding back your grand ideas.”

Now, just when you thought the SEC was getting busy as a bee, they’ve let off some of them big crypto outfits, like Coinbase and Ripple. Some folks reckon it’s ’cause Trump’s trying to cozy up to his pals for his2024 shindig. 🤔

Come January, when the119th Congress got rolling, they started talking about setting things straight with a market structure bill. They aim to clear up who’s boss when it comes to digital assets between the SEC and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission. And wouldn’t you know it, Trump signed an executive order, faster than a jackrabbit on a hot griddle, to set up a working group to mull over stablecoins and such.

Paul Atkins, nominated by Trump himself, is up to bat before the Senate Banking Committee. They’ll be grilling him on his crypto views like he’s a steak at a barbecue. Atkins, who’s got his fingers in a few crypto pies, might just be the man to take over the SEC chair, but only if he can waltz through the Senate’s dance floor without stepping on any toes.
